My engine is starting to accumulate diesel residue and I'd like to air spray it with some type cleaner/solvent.

In the past I've used Varsol to clean aircraft and auto engines with great results - but it doesn't have much affect on diesel fuel.

Looking for a product that won't hurt wiring, hoses, etc.
So far I've only tried the Varsol but thought I'd ask guru's here before I went further.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

I would recommend AGAINST washing any electronically controlled engine.

You can certainly use rags and a little WD40 or other mild solvent that does not require rinsing off with water.

Simple Green works for me. My engine is newer than and I try to stay on top of it, not letting it get to dirty. I just spray it on a cold engine, let it sit a few minutes then hose it off, then go back and scrub any bad spots....Bruce

From Edmunds.com...engine cleaning tips...Diesels too!

Every car and truck I've ever owned had the kind of engine that mechanics or friends would comment "Good God, I could eat off of that!" Including my F250 TurboDiesel. I use LA's Totally Awsome cleaner concentrate...(99 cent stores or Dollar Stores) HERE Warm only, not hot, and no pressure washers. You see guys in their big rigs spraying down their engines all the time! The stuff that needs to be water sealed most likely already is. Air intake is most important place to seal properly, and remember to un-seal prior to starting!

I use Castrol "super clean" in the purple spray bottle. This stuff literally eats oil and cuts grease wonderfully. I'm one of the ones that uses a pressure washer on my engine to get it clean. there are a lot of people that are super "careful" about it, but the way I look at it - I'd much rather maintain a clean motor and be able to see if something is leaking, etc.

Just be careful to not inhale while you are spraying the super clean - as it's super caustic for your lungs.

It works a lot better than Simple Green for cutting thru the oil/grease.

we used to use a pressure washer and a steam cleaner if it was really bad.gas engines you have to be more carefully where you spray I used to leave them running and any sign of rough running I would stop.
