Absolutely beautiful place. Bring all you need with you since the 'store' is sparsely stocked and it is a long way to the grocer. Since you are going in the spring, bring lots of bug repellant.
They rebuilt the beach a couple of years ago and it is not as charming as it was with all the driftwood and other logs around when the beach was washing away. There is a neat little seafood restaurant/bar just across the creek from the park. Wish we were headed there too.
Love the place and go several times each year. TV reception - well....I've sure had better. According to where you are in the park, you get different channels. You get a WB, Fox, UPN, PBS, CBS and an ABC on the back side of the park. On the front (#1-37, spotty over on #60-95), you can also pick up an NBC station.
We were there over T'giving and again over New Years and have plans to go the first of June. As stated by Horsedoc, be sure to take plenty of bug spray. We have a "mosquito deleto" that we take - wouldn't go without it. It makes it bearable in the evenings at the campsite - the beach doesn't need it with the wind.
There is a Publix Supermarket and just past there, a Food Lion that are on Lady's Island that is the closest actual grocery store. We always stop and stock up before we head on to Hunting Island (about 12 miles away). Publix is at the intersection of 802 and 21 and Food Lion is on 21 about 100 yards past Publix on the left in the shopping center. Across the street from Food Lion is "Steamers". They have really good seafood, especially their shrimp salads. Right before you get to Harbor Island and across the street from the Shrimp Basket (that's the restaurant that Horsedoc referred to), Gay Fish Co is on the right with FRESH shrimp. You will see their shrimp boats from the beach at HI, coming in every evening and sometimes you will see them during the day if it is clear way out in the ocean. If you like to crab, we have been very successful at the pier on Hunting Island. T'giving dinner this year was crab cakes and 18 steamed blue crabs and lots of other fixins.
If you have any specific questions, just PM me. We love the area and have done quite a bit of sightseeing while in the area.
Well, leaving tomorrow and heading to Hunting Island. I am sooo looking forward to this trip. I have read so many nice things about it and saw many beautiful photos on the internet. Can't wait to get there.
One of our favorites! Was there in March and it was great! Be sure to climb the lighthouse if it is open. TV was good enough to watch the NCAA tournament.
