Ok. So I have an old 1976 26 foot tt. Its sitting set up right now on some land mainly used as a hunting camper. My concern is with the water system. It was used last year and as far as I know the unit was winterized. So what should I be concerned with this year? My family usually doesn't drink the water from their campers (they all have new campers) and I don't know why. Isn't the water safe to drink? What the consensus on this drink or don't drink the water from the water system? What should I used to clean the tank out? The method of putting bleach in the water and driving around will that be fine? What about the water lines themselves? I would like to be able to drink the water from the rv without worrying I or my family is going to get sick so al lthe advice in the world would be appreciated. I did read a thread on hear regarding water and cleaning but since my tt is so old doe sanyone have specific suggestions?
Thanks in advance,
Adam

In over 20 years of RV I never sanitized ANY tank.
Usually I try to drain the fresh water tank before winter storage, but seem there is always some left at the bottoms no matter what you do. We just fill them up next season and I use it for my coffee without hesitation. Drinking tap water is still not something I would recommend.
In wet climates algees are more likely to grow in the tank, so take it into consideration.

We drink the water out of ours, though bottled water always tastes better. (Of course we fill ours at home most of the time, and our home tap water is not too good. ) Yes, the bleach will work - try a search here for some more threads and links for the formula. If you're worried about the lines as well as tanks, try a little stronger formula and run through each faucet & spigot until you can smell the chlorine. Remember to flush thoroughly before use!

I sanitize the system with the mild bleach solution once in the Spring after clearing the antifreeze out after storage. I have a faucet mounted PUR filter on the kitchen faucet that we use during the season and we fill a drinking water jug from it that we keep in the fridge. The carbon filter takes the 'taste' out of the water just fine.

Ok so do you think there are any tank corrosion problems? Its a metal tank are all fresh tanks metal? Won't bleach cause corrosion? So if I have this right this is how I would go about cleaning the water system.
1. Flush the antifreeze from the lines. To do this I would fill the fresh water tank with water and turn the pump on right? Does the whole fresh water tank have antifreeze in it? Is one tank of water through the lines sufficient in removing all the antifreeze?
2. Next fill the tank about half full of water with the bleach solution. What ratio of bleach to water should I use or is there something non corrosive i could use.
3. run water so lines fill with cleaning solution from tank
4. drive around so water sloshes in tank
5 then should i fill the tank up completley and let it set over night for 12 hours or so?
Then flush by draining water then filling half way with clean water then driving around then run tank through the lines. Then one more fresh tank of water ran though the lines?
So once this is done I should be good to go right?
Thanks

Is it okay to leave the bleach solution in for 24hrs? I ask because there is a dump station on the air base, and I could take the trailer to work with me to dump.
