There's Goulding's Lodge and Campground just over the border into Utah. Other campgrounds are quite a drive from the valley in Kayenta, AZ and Bluff, UT.
Be sure to check out Gouldings' Trading Post right in the valley. That's where several of Waynes' and John Fords' movies were headquartered out of, starting with Stagecoach.
Lots of pictures and memorabilia on the walls of the office. Wonderful vistas abound there, as well as being able to find out about tours etc.
There's a campground there. It used to be a KOA, but I don't know if it is anymore?? Enjoy!

Gouldings has a very nice rv park with good view and, as stated, lots of movie memorabilia.
across the highway from Gouldings is a campground owned/run by the Navajos.
It's nice, too, but does not have full hookups.. does have water and dump station.. .and is cheaper than Gouldings.
Gouldings is sort of up in a canyon. The indian campground is out in the open on a little knoll.
Both have a few trees. Both have reddish sand to get in your rugs. lol

Well I tell ya pilgrim, ya have to stay at Gouldings cause it's right there where the Duke walked out of his quarters in "She wore a Yellow Ribbon"
And I tell ya another thing, " if ya say good morning to me I'll have to shoot ya"
We stayed there a week I had a great time. Make sure you close all awnings when you leave to any length of time. Big dust storms can kick out of no where.

We stayed at Gouldings a few years ago. Beautiful setting in a red rock canyon. We also took the tour with a Native American guide, well worth the money especially if you are a western movie buff. Have a great time, I'm jealous!
Gouldings is fun, comfortable, pool, store, restaurant, etc but we like the Navajo Tribal Park right on the edge of the valley. There is NOTHING more spectacular than sunrise/sunset on Monument Valley and you're only a few feet from your camper. No hookups, just a table and shade roof but they do have a restaurant and showers. Also, extremely reasonable-first come, first served. Also it can get pretty windy at that campground but maybe not when you go.
You can drive your own vehicle into the valley from there but only on an 18 mile loop. Anything further you need a guide.
