Hi -
Please reply back with your recommendations (and reason why ) for a family campground in the general Myrtle Beach area that does not look like sardines packed in a can.
thanks

Myrtle Beach Travel Park -- activities for kids --- nice clean park on the water -- close to other activities -- the sites are somewhat close -- outdoor & indoor pool
Myrtle Beach State Park -- no pool -- nice large lots -- State park with some full hookups -- fishing pier
Most all of the parks in Myrtle Beach have close sites.

Happy Trails

Two personal observations here... the closer to the beach the smaller the sites are and I've camped down there over the packed July 4th week and I can truely say that I was amazed that it wasn't any noiser than most neighborhoods . I prefer some shade and stay away from the beach. I grew up going to Lakewood from the first year it opened and my family grew up going there as well. IMHO a great family campground. If you look at Lakewoods web site and the map, you can judge which sites are larger. Hope your travels to and from and your stay at the beach will be great.

We stayed at the Myrtle Beach KOA last summer. About three blocks in from the beach, but the sites were very wide and shaded. If they are not full, they try to place campers every other site so you have even a wider area around you. Nice pool and activities for the kids.

Just returned from a week stay at Pirateland RV Park. Stayed across the street from the water. It was not crowed at all, of course it was only April. Had water, electric, sewer and cable for $33 per night. Have all the amenities you would need, convenient to most things outside of the park, including the just opened Hard Rock Amusement park. Piarateland also has a lazy river setup. Quite nice park. They just opened a new section of pull thru's on concrete slabs which is great if you should have heavy rains. Good luck.

I tried to send you a PM, but you weren't accepting them Can you tell me if you site at Pirateland was mostly sand/dirt or was it grassy ?? We are probably going there next spring and are trying to pick a site. With 3 kids and 2 dogs we prefer nice grassy sites. I was wondering if the sites near the lake would better suit our needs.

Thanks for any input

Just returned from Huntington Beach State Park. Wonderful state park but is no frills. Check it out on at SC state parks and Google Earth.
When I say no frills I mean no pools, cable, etc. but good bike trails, hiking paths, close to beach and Brookgreen.
Have a good time where ever.

We think that the sites at Huntington Beach State Park are huge, compared to some at resort areas. It is close to the ocean and the beach is wonderful. Plus Murrells's Inlet is a neat place to go too.

Last year I had the same complaint and someone recommended the Myrtle Beach state park (right next to Pirateland) I LOVED it...no pool no CATV but big sites ,much lower rates , a huge beach and fishing pier. Who needs a pool that's only four feet deep anyway.
