I am considering using these lights on the toad.

Question, how are you routing the wires to the motorhome without them damaging the finish on the toad while driving?

Haven't got the Toad set up yet, but I'm planning to do the same thing, using magnetic lights. I figured to run them under the hood, inside the doors (Front & Back) and onto the trunk. I've read on this Forum, where people put the light inside the car (depending on what you are towing, I guess) so that you don't have the magnets on the paint. To that, someone mentioned putting a piece of cloth or dryer sheets, to protect the paintjob.

I guess I'd just do what works best for me....you should probably do the same. Try it different ways, and figure out what is best.

As I said, I'm not quite there yet...just bought the MH, so still need to get the tow-bar, etc. But I'm looking forward to it.

Good luck,
Bill

I ran my magnetic lights though the toad under the carpet out through the trunk. When I am ready to tow I take my lights out of the trunk and place them on it. I now only have two wires riding on top of the trunk. I have a connection inside of the trunk which runs all the way through the driver’s side (under carpeting) out the firewall around the motor and I have it terminate at another four way flat plug. I then bought a pig tail to connect the car plug to the motorhome plug. Therefore I have no wires rubbing the paint and it is all hidden. Once I am totally done towing I unplug my magnetic lights from the trunk and put them away. I also place them in the trunk when I stop at a restaurant or store, so they are not stolen. It really was not that hard to run the wire through the car.

Got rid of the tow dolly and got rid of the car.
Bought a 4 down tow car and a tow bar.
Very happy now,

I bought magnet lights in 2000 as temporary measure and am still using them. On the Cherokee I ran a wire (trailer wire set from hardware store) from the front bumper to the tailgate. That wire stays in place. Now I place the lights on the roof, open the tailgate and plug in the lights (with shortened lead wire), close the tailgate and stuff the wires down into the opening between the body and tailgate. At the front I plug in the wire that is tied to the towbar and plug the other end into the trailer hitch recepticle.
The roof is scratched a little but not much. If it were the trunk of a car that would not be acceptable. I always meant to put lights and diodes into the Cherokee but dropped the idea as not worth the trouble since I have the magnet lights.

I personally don't get the magnetic light thing. If you are going to go through all the trouble of running the wires permanently, you've done all the work to wire up the lights in the toad and have a nice slick setup. The only reason I see to use the magnetic lights is if you're going to slap them on and don't care about the wires banging around on the paint, etc.
