I have 3 sons that are very active. We live and breathe sports. If we don't have a tv, THEY would be spending all the time on the computer checking scores.
Without a tv, I would be using the computer all the time checking news.
One way or the other, the tv goes with us.
Without a tv, we would be killing one another. With a tv, there is peace. Family time only goes so far with three boys - two of them teenagers.

I never wanted camping to seem like a punishment. So, we stayed balanced. We got out of the rig to look and see and do. But, while at camp, we had the same rules we do at home: family time out weights tv.

There are times...rain, bedtime, where they use the TV/DVD. I know I'm going to be in trouble here, but I even put in an X-Box for them. (it also doubles for the DVD player)

LOL, that is funny! I agree.
Grandparents are there to spoil the younguns too. Mine sure spoiled us. Initially I wouldn't like it for the disrespect but if someone still didn't like the gesture just don't bring the DVD back. Life is too short...........
My wife doesn't like the tv also but we have one and at night we catch up on weather and news while we cook dinner. She watches too! He, he, he. Son gets to watch a little in the morning while we cook breakfast and take time to pull our head out where we are still there with him for communication and interaction. Then we go out and enjoy the day!

We have a TV in our TT. Actually hubby watches it more then the kiddos do. In the evenings after the kids are in bed and we have sat around the fire he likes to sit back and watch some tv. Something he rarely has time to do at home.
When camping the kids don't get to hang out in the TT, they don't usually want to anyway.
I will say when we bought our new truck last year hubby opted to have the tv put in which I thought was a waste of money.... until our first trip and I realized how quiet the drive was LOL. The 3 of them sat back there with their wireless headphones on and never had a single argument!

We introduced our kids to board games (not bored games) like Yahtzee, monopoly, and cards. They complained at first, but then loved playing them at night and when raining. They now play them at home also. Much more family friendly than TV or video games.

We also have a TV in our RV, but when out camping our girls don't end up watching that much tv. Too many things for them to do!
But we like being able to catch up on news/weather like previous poster mentioned. And after the kids have gone to sleep we sometimes watch a movie, but its rare, we're usually too tired by then.
I think the TV is no big deal.

My kids use the TV at night. Over memorial weekend it rained and snowed for the fist 2 days of camping and I have a 9 and 7 year old so the TV was a good thing. I think as long as you monitor your kids TV time it can be a good thing.

We have not done TT camping.. but we do tent and cabin camp. I was glad to have the portable DVD players last year at Easter when it rained the whole entire time and when it was not raining it was about 35 degrees outside LOL We Froze!
With a 4 and 5yo it was a life saver. Normally we don't do the portable DVD players once we get to camp. Sometimes at night to help wind them down we will let them watch a movie.. But, they are usually tired from what we did that day that they go straight to sleep.

Very interesting topic... I read it all...and like so many have said..the issue is, should the OP have stuck to her guns...the answer is yes... my DW has an Aunt that dotes only over my DD(18 yo)and only my DD...(she has 3 other great nephews and 1 other great niece) We have had so much trouble because of my DW's aunt. She refuses to abide by what we say, and then bad mouths us to my DD, when my DD complains we won't let her have or do something. We have forbidden her from spending significant time with her great aunt. And that is the way it will stay until Auntie learns to behave...it's been close to a year since my DD was allowed to spend the night...
As for TV while camping... we have the portable DVD, and I just threw my DD's old 19" TV/VCR combo in the PUP... I used it once last year... I was camping with just my boys and the camper next to us had 2 boys close in age... I figured I'd give my new neighbors some "alone" time, since sitting around with them I got the drift that they haven't had much time together, so I threw in Disney/Pixar's Cars and we had a Drive-in movie on the picnic table, with the campfire going right behind us, adding to the experience...it's all in moderation...but going back to the OP's original question..yes you should have stuck to your guns...as Ann Landers used to say...only you can let people walk over you!
