We are almost ready to start full timing. We've decided on earth class for a mail forwarding service. Do we still need to maintain a street address for certain things such as license, vehicle registration, etc. or will the PO box be sufficient. We don't have relatives whose address we can use, just friends. Sandy

I've never heard of "earth class" so can't comment on it. PO box will not work for establishing a domicile which is what you need to do. Lacking someone to handle your mail, your best bet is going to be to establish a domicile which is the place you intend to live some day as evidenced by vehicle registration, drivers license, voter registration, etc. There are mail forwarding services, such as the one belonging to Escapees RV Club Link to Escapees which provide you a street address which is valid for all purposes I mentioned above. The address is in Texas, which has no state income tax. There are also mail forwarding services in South Dakota and in some other states. Check the link I provided above and it will answer your questions.

Do some searching right here for 'domicile' and 'residence'. Some states do allow use of a friend's address for domicile or street address, but you'd have to check PA law on that kind of thing. Actually makes more practical sense than an empty house...

Our FL Mail Forwarder uses a street address with a Suite # and then our box #. This makes it easier to fill out tax returns, get mail-in rebates that otherwise won't send to POBoxes and fill out winning lottery tickets!

In early 2005, when DH went to change his FL DL from our temporary Apt address to MailForwarder, we had to give them the address of the RV Park that we were staying in. They used the MF address on his DL and all vehicle registrations because that's where we get renewals.

Many RVP's aren't set up to receive mail, which we've found is quite common. We've also found when ordering online, there's a Billing address (the MF) and a Shipping address (the RVP). It's common practice amongst web merchants.

You will want to change your residence to a more tax favorable state (NOT PA). There are several good mail forwarding services out there that will give you a street address. may i suggest looking into ones located in South Dakota or Florida, those states have favorable state taxes.

Each state sets it's own laws about what is required in order to be a local citizen and thus have your legal domicile there. There are some very strong reasons for the three most popular states being Florida, Texas and South Dakota. The two key ones are that none of those states require you to spend some period of time in them in order to be a citizen and allowed to vote. And none of those three have any state income tax.

Most states have very specific laws about what kind of address is acceptable for issuing a license to drive and voter registration. Usually they will not accept a postal box for those purposes. In addition, most vehicle insurance companies will not accept postal box addresses. That same is true for several other things but to know for sure about your state, you need to check the laws there.

Arkansas will issue driver's license with a PO Box as an address. As long as you do not have a registered firearm. I have had a PO Box for an address for the last 4 years. They do a lot of weird things down there in the sticks. LOL
