We are planning a trip to Spruce Knob, WV the higest point in the state. Planning to stay at George Washington/Brandywine Lake (Natl Forest)if water, showers and electricity are available. This is in the Seneca Rocks rec. area.

I would like to hear anyones comments on this park or another near CG and sights to visit while in the area.

Thanks
Harry

Hi Harry,

When we visited the area, we stayed at Canaan Valley State Park with full hookups (including sewer). This was a convienient location to visit Blackwater Falls, Dolly Sods, Seneca Rocks and Spruce Knob. The whole area is very scenic.

Happy Camping,

Mike

Brandywine, has showers, water(but probably not at each site),flush toilets, dump station. NO electric, in fact, I dont know of any Nat'l Forests that have elec hookups.

Thanks for your responses, they are very helpful. We are deciding between:
Canaan Valley, Seneca Shadows CG and Brandywine Lake.
We will be driving from Baltimore after coming North from Georgia in our popup. While staying in the Seneca Rocks area for three nights water, electric and restroom with showers will make the trip more enjoyable. Private campgrounds are not out of the question.

Y'all take care

We stayed at the campground near the SR some years ago. A few of the sites were large and private with lots of shade which is what we expect and a few were much smaller and closer together. Back than none of the private campgrounds we saw in the area where as nice in our opinion but we do not want a swiming pool or Bingo.

There are a number of NF campgrounds in the east that have electric hookups. We stayed at Seneca Shadows in West Virginia and Twin lakes in Alegheny NF. Both have electric as do a few aong Kinzu Dam. Also Trout Pond has electric hookups. We are going there this weekend.
Go to this website for info on all NF campgroundsttp://www.forestcamping.com/

There used to be a commercial CG (H2o and elec) at Yocum's store, just north of Seneca Rocks, right on the river- in fact, you can see Seneca Rocks from the CG. IF it's still there! Otherwise, Canan Valley is probaby the best for full hook ups. The whole area is a great place to visit and explore.

I've always though that the primitive sites at the top of Spruce Knob would be awesome!
