Really NICE job. I like the way it updates the front of your coach. I wish more people would post pictures of their upgrades.

Great looking install. I am concerned about increased component failures due to elevated temperature. My Sony 32" installation guide said to leave 11 7/8" on top and 4" on sides for a wall mount installation. Power consumption is at 158 watts. That is why I ended up more or less letting the back of the TV sit flush with old TV cabinet surface. The TV's are designed for convection cooling and I don't see that happening with your design. At the very least provide additional air flow pathways on the top into the open interior area. JMHO.

Thank you all. I am now getting concerned about heat. I will just have to see how hot it gets. Every LCD I have seen crammed into a compartment has about the same cooling as mine. It really is not as tight as the pics make it look. The very dark trim and the black felt lining the box really hides the edges of the TV as to make it look all one piece flush mounted. It looks just as good if not better in person but air should be able to circulate around the TV quite easily. Like I said, if it does start to feel hot in there, I can pull the box back out in 5 min and put in some more vent holes and installing a computer fan back there would also be very easy. I really don't think it will be necessary. The TV does not touch the back of the cabinet box and there is a gap all the way around the sides. I really wanted the built in look so we will see how it goes. Its a relativly cheap TV in the big scheme of things as well. These things have really come down in price. 700 bucks will buy you a really nice one these days. I have no money in the mount and about 8 dollars in felt, 24 dollars in plywood and some of my rare time off work to play with my toy.

I mounted a 26 inch LCD outside last year in one of my side compartments and I will have to post some pics of my outdoor living room here. I think you all would appreciate it. I think working and changing these RVs is pretty fun and makes these thing your own. I encoruage all of you to start threads with pics showing your changes. Its really fun for me to see what you have done as well. I got my Ideas from several of you here on this forum, like the above poster with the same coach as mine. I spent a lot of time reading here before I picked up a screw gun. If I run into problems with heat, I will definatly post about it and how I solved it.

Jeff - I agree the customization is fun. I put in a bunk ladder last month and am now working on plans for a Shoe cupboard (3 level) coffee table and coat rack to replace my barrel chair that serves those purposes now

BTW LCD's are usually good for 140F + heat so you're probably OK. At least notebook computer screens are and they are the same stuff.

My Dad is retired and he and I like to play with this type of thing. Best thing is, I can design and he has the time to finish it in more detail than I could possibly commit to. So not only do I get my toys customized but I get some Father/Son bonding time.

I'd take it down right away and add the venting holes to the top and bottom, you can get some nice black plastic clip-in finishing pieces to make them look nice, but that set is going to need some serious breathing room. I would do it before replacing the TV is required.

As I said in my other post, our 42" throws a lot of heat (thankfully it's not encased in a box), you can feel that the front panel (LCD) is warm to the touch, but it's all radiating from the electronics inside the case, which breathe from the holes in the upper, lower and mid-back of the TV casing. This can be verified by holding your hand over the venting holes on the top edge of the TV case (when out of the box).

I wonder how hot the stock TV got ? I'll bet with the openings he's got on the new one things are much cooler. Nice Job. I'm going to do something similar...can't stand the squeeks. I might shorten the TV enclosure some too.

Nice Job!!!! We have the same setup with the original Sony as you had before your upgrade. This same box area with the Sony up front is pretty standard for Newmar. I have looked at several different types of front end Newmar TV changeouts/upgrades done by owners to change out the Sony and tried to take ideas from them and I really like yours. I will send you a PM inquiring about the exact TV you installed.

Nice job! When we had our '03 KSDP I changed the TV in that one too. I like your install idea a bunch. I think I'll be changing the TV in my folks Tiffin soon and I'll surely look at using your method. In our case I was able to find a TV of almost the exact same size as the existing opening, so no trim work was required.

And I'm sure you'll find the same thing we did; no more TV shake. The 26" LCD we put in was 56 lbs lighter than the flat screen that came out.

I'll come up and you can put a flat panel in MY coach is if want to.....LOL
