We're looking to spend a Saturday night in May in Las Vegas as we start out on a trip. We don't need hoopla . . . just a convenient park to pull off and spend the night. Suggestions?

Since we like hoopla, we stay at the Oasis.

Oasis is nice, but if no hoopla, try Sams Town, there is also the great parking lot on the strip, it's call Circus Circus KOA. IMO, not worth half of what they charge, but to each his own, you may like it for one night.

We love the Oasis and we always stay here during the winter months. It is right off the 15 fwy at exit 33 (Blue Diamond/Windmill exit). If you just want to overnight with no hook-ups, I have seen many MH's overnight at the South Point Casino. This is at Siverado Ranch Rd exit. Me, I would always call and make sure it is okay to overnight, but I do see MH's and trailers up front overnight all the time.

There are a number of RV parks on the road to Henderson NV and Hoover Dam. You are still only 15-30 minutes to the Vegas strip, but out of the rat-race and bumper to bumper traffic.

The Orleans is really good if you just want to sleep and don't need a campground. If you want to be on the strip the only campground is the KOA at Circus Circus. There is also free parking behind Ballys.

I have a convention in JULY in Vegas at the MGM... I will be out of the RV all day each day but want to be close. I have a 42 foot class A so I need a pretty good size spot and a quick run over into the MGM. I do not think I will have a toad. I think I can run over from Ballys on the monorail but think I will have to run the genny all night every night and wonder if it is worth it to take my little house down from Utah or if I should just stay at the MGM for $150 per night. (I know I know... some of it is just having the RV and staying in it... Is the Circus Circus KOA close to the Monorail stop?

Circus Circus is not near the Monorail, it is on the opposite side of Las Vegas Blvd. I have stayed at Circus Circus during conventions as well as various hotels. Although I Iove the RV style, the cost of fuel and the cost of LV RV campgrounds make it difficult to justify. At $150, stay at the MGM and take the monorail to the convention center.

Vacation Village used to let you park in their lot. They're now closed. Circus Circus campground is just a crowded parking lot for RVs. It has hook ups and you will need your AC all night long in the summer. It's kind of like going to a casino and sleeping in your car.
