Hi Folks,

So we had reservations for august at Huntington Beach State Park. Have stayed there before as well as a number times at Ocean lakes. A change in family plans suddenly makes me need July reservations, not august. Huntington Beach and Ocean Lakes are completely booked. It seems there are spots in Myrtle Beach State Park.

What do people think? I have seen horror stories about navigating there.Rvparkreviews seems to mainly complain in older reviews about the trees - maybe they have made it better? I have a 30 ft 5er. I have had a very bad experience in an old NY State CG where I crunched it. Don't want to repeat.

HELP!

Steve

Hi

How about Lakewood RV Resort? or Pirate Land, both are located right down the street from the State park.

If you get site 20 or one in that area-- I don't believe you would have a problem.
We have a 38' MH and have stayed there with no problems.

I'm willing to bet all MB CGs are full for July. You "may" have a chance to get into Apache in North MB. Baring that. You can keep trying OL, PL or LW. People cancel every day. Also, with the old OL reservation policy. People would reserve a month or so, and then when they finally decided when to go. Would cancel the rest. So If you keep trying. There is a good chance you will get in.

MB State Park has widened many of their interior roads so navigation there is much less of a problem. It's also totally paved now. Not the sites (which are almost all level) but the interior roads. We also have a 30' TT and now have no real problems inside the campground. Agree, however, that finding a spot in the campground could be tough for July. Would suggest contacting the campground directly.

They can answer your specific questions regarding available sites and how well your rig would fit.
Feel free to PM me if you would loke more info about the area or the park.
We live less than 3 miles from it. We'll be camping there again July 4th week!

If you don't have to be right on the beach,Myrtle Beach KOA is a very nice CG. We stayed there last August and they had plenty of open sites. Not to say the CG is a bad one, but I think most would prefer to be on the beach, so if this is not a big concern for you, check out their web site at KOA.com to see if you would like it. We did.

As others have said, getting a site in July in Myrtle Beach may be a tall order. On the other hand, I think the gas prices are going to cut down on travel a bit, so it's worth a shot. The only MB CG we have recent experience with is Myrtle Beach Travel Park. Not many trees, but each site has a small cabana for a bit of shade.

if all else fails you might try willow creek in longs sc. its about 6 miles from north myrtle beach up sc 9 the north on 905. rural park . supposedly large spaces. its a bit pricey but any port in a storm.
the other thing with the new bypass around myrtle beach its not far from anywhere on the strand.
look at the new amusement prk out 501 across the waterway. we went by therre yesterday and it is ready to open about may ninth. muchd better than the old one down town. big.

I would second Myrtle Beach Travel Park, excellent facilities, very accomodating customer service and first class restrooms. Good luck hope you can find an opening.

Thanks guys - we have 2 options not - I have a july trip reserved that has a week in the keys and then a week in MB at Huntington. I also got 2 weeks reserved in august at Ocean lakes. Have to decide. We do want to scuba dive (hence the keys.) But august is a bit easier.
