Fortunately, our old Holiday Rambler had a standard '89 vintage Fujitsu-Ten AM/FM Cassette car stereo. It was easy to replace it with the much nicer Clarion that I already had (intended to mount in my bus conversion). It's handy to have the remote control, AUX inputs, line outputs, and MP3 capability. I think RV manufacturers should just stick to a standard car stereo despite the fact that it doesn't look like a home stereo - neither do most of the systems I see installed in trailers, either.

I just finished the third phase of my TT stereo upgrade.

Phase one: Replace cheap "Dual" brand factory car stereo with Pioneer with back panel auxilary connector for Television sound connection. Also added mount, connections and antenna for XM radio. I move the unit from trailer or car to car and pickup (TV), depending on which we are using.

Phase two: Add 10" powered subwoofer (bazooka) in space under dinette by wall over wheel well. (fit perfectly)

Phase Three; Replace 4 cheap speakers in roof with Infiniti speakers (Best Buy had a buy one set get the 2nd set at 1/2 price)

I take a little jam box with a CD player and some CDs. I use the trailer stereo when cooking or relaxing. Its a piece of junk but I just turn on something relaxing and keep it low.

guess I should do some updating.. LOL

I should have added... I have the AUX input connected to a switch box. This allow me to play the Sirius sat. radio, my iPod, the TV / DVD player, or my notebook pc through the built-in speakers. I'm sure I'll also have to replace the factory speakers, as the additional power from the new stereo will likely damage them.

Like the install. I am thinking of doing something like that in my TT. Currently it has one of the no name CD/DVD/FM 120 volt units. Wanna do kind of a 12 volt miniature rack system. I was looking at starting with something like this here

AcceleVision Indash/Underseat DVD/CD/MP3 Player w/TV Tuner

Foneguy, actually I have a couple pieces of wood inside holding it steady. I still want to add more bracing just to make sure it stays put when I travel.

I know on my Jayco and others I have seen both speakers are wired to left front channel even thought all the wires are run and it was an easy fix to pull the radio and move 2 speaker wires over to the right channel and I hooked up the rear channels wires only in case I want to install exterior speakers in the future and yes the exterior ones would be very small and quiet as to not bother thy neighbor
