So you are basically living very near the convention center? Used to go down there for trade shows every couple of years. Sorry, to me to got really seedy the last time I was there. My SIL tells me that Disney is buying up all the cheep motels and razzing them to help clean up the blight. Drugs and prostitution are not conducive to a family environment to my mind. You may be sitting on a million dollar property, but I personally would not give you 50 dollars for it in that area. Sorry, JMHO. Others are free to disagree as they see fit

So, 96Bounder30E, do you recommend my idea? And if so, where can we stay, which beach?
Golden_HVAC has already given me great ideas. What better way to do this, than by being directed by someone who knows the area so well!
THX!
(btw, the area doesn't scare me. Did I mention I live in Phoenx? )

Golden_HVAC is a friend of mine......the info he has given you is good.....the only thing I am not sure of is boondocking in the area Walmarts or Sams clubs.....It's been many years now since I've seen RV's in the parking lots at these places......I assumed city ordinances have banished this practice.......around here.....
The problem with boondocking in this area is...this area is all city.....no rural space.......where most boondocking is allowed......
I would call the area stores and ask.......
As far as going to the beach.....I'd just pay to park the RV.....it would make your day at the beach more ejoyable and less expensive as food and drinks at the beach is usually expensive.....just get to the beach early and you won't have a problem finding a spot...
for a day at the beach...either Bolsa Chica or Huntington state beach can't be beat......

Mmmmm, with the realestate market the way it is, housing has taken a total dump here. Perhaps you used to sit on a "gold mine." Now I think you're more like on a "copper mine.
It's only a gold mine if you plan on selling and getting the cash. Otherwise, it's still just a house next to the convention center.

LOL........I'm actually a long way from the convention center........but, yes, you're right.....the housing market has taken a hit and frankly, I could care less.....I'm not selling......yet anyway!......
But, my poor neighboor who does have his house up for sale started at $789 and has had to come all the way down to $749 before he started to get any tire kickers......but, he still hasn't sold so he might yet have to knock off a few more pennys!

Here is something you may not have given much thought to. Parking at Disneyland is not free. Here is a link to their pricing Most motels/rv parks offer some sort of shuttle service (I'm not sure if there is a charge or not) Anyway, If shuttle charges are small enough you might find that after you subtract the $13 a day parking fee the RV park prices might fall within your budget.
Sorry if my explanation was confusing.
You might also look into public transportation from an RV park.

Never mind. I took a look at the RV park rates in the Anaheim area. Most seem to be $46 a night. I also found that the shuttle bus charge is $3 for those over 10. No bargins to be found!

yeah, I had already looked at the rv parks too.
it would be cheaper to just buy a Disney package, than to stay at an RV park.
Thx for all the advice.

I just drove through Canyon RV park in Anaheim Hills (east part of Anaheim). It's actually 15.5 miles from Disneyland. It's setting is in a wilderness area next to the Santa Ana River. It's less than $30.00 per day. I'd highly recommed this place. I would suggest you get a spot that is along right up along the river's edge. That would be along the northern and western section of the park. Park your TT there and then use your tow vehicle to explore orange county.
Regarding beaches in Orange County. Basically Bolsa Chica State beach and Doheney State beach (the BEST!) are totally BOOKED solid!!!! I doubt you'll get a spot there. There is Newport Dunes RV resort (right on the bay) amoungst multi-million dollar homes. Very nice RV park, but it may have some vacancies. Do a google search for the URL and look it up if interested. All the beaches I've mentioned are less than 30 minutes away from Disneyland. Doheny is the furthest away. Maybe 40 minutes with traffic, but it's an awesome beach for RV's. I'd be willing to be though that you won't get a spot there. The reservations fill up almost a year in advance.
There are other beaches like San Clemente and San Onofre which are further south in Orange County. But, they are not right on the water and are actually on cliffs. Nice, but many homeless people there at night, so lock up your generators and lanterns. They'll disappear if not secured at those two beaches.
This all points me back to Canyon RV park. It's not the "best" but it's nice for a lay over for a night or two. Lots and lots of trees. Don't camp along the south side of the park becuase it's too close to the loud sounds of the 91 freeway. The north/west area of the camp is best. I'd rather stay there and drive 15 miles to Disneyland than to have to camp in ANY Walmart parking lot! Especially in a WalMart in the city of Garden Grove (right next to Disneyland). That city is not very nice.
Good luck and let us know what you finally decide upon doing.

Thx for the info. That park sounds like a good solution for parking my RV. I don't have a "tow" vehicle, because we have a class c motor home, we also will not be taking a toad.
So I might have to find another way to get to Disney....
