What are some of the worst injuries everyone has ever gotten while camping? I'm just curious, because it always seems something happens to me while we are camping.
This is mine,
We were boating actually, but on a camping trip, and I thought I would be funny and stand up on the inner tube. Going about 40mph. on the water. Well, I kinda fell off and broke a rib. It hurt...

We USUALLY measure how much fun we're having by how many 'dings' we get. Nothing serious usually but I've burned my hand on a hot chain saw exhaust before, left skin from my head on most parts of the trailer at some time or another.

The only injury that was serious at all, happened a number of years ago when my pop up trailer fell off of the block I used under the tongue. The ground was soft so the tongue buried itself in the ground and I decided I was going to simply LIFT it back onto the block. It wasn't a particularly HEAVY tongue but it weighed over 300 lb. I got the job done but pulled a muscle in my back during the effort, that laid me up for a week.

Well boys will be boys! We took the kids and the trailer to Calico Ghost Town last summer. The kids climbed up to the top of one of the hills and were banging rocks together. All of a sudden my oldest (10) is running down the hill. He smashed his finger with the two rocks. It was BAD and ugly! Ouch! Took a really long time to heal also.

Other than that I got bit by a fire ant in the desert and had an allergic reaction.

Just remember the first aid kit on all of your trips and day adventures and you should be fine..

I, myself, have been pretty lucky so far, but I've witnessed a few injuries over the years:

Once, while camping along the Kern River, a drunken member of our group decided to dive head first into the rapids from a large rock.

He didn't even see the rock just below the surface. He literally floated up in a pool of red water, with the strong current washing him downstream. Several of us ran after him, fished him out, and then drove him into the hospital in Kernville...

He was back drinking by nightfall. Luckily he only hit his head...not much there to hurt.

Be careful out there!

The father of one of my son-in-law's friends drowned in the Kern River.

As for me, worst injury so far was when I was camping with friends. I was ready for the hike before they were, decided to sit on a rock at the top of a stream embankment and wait for them. The next thing I knew...

I had apparently slipped on some wet grass and done a double end-over-end flip, hitting every rock on the way down a slope about the length of a long steep flight of stairs. If the rocks had been rough instead of round, I might not be here. Total injuries: broken hand, many cuts and bruises on many body parts both front and back, mild concussion, momentary unconsciousness, and a burst blood vessel in my thigh. That last one was the worst, caused bleeding almost to transfusion point. Friends drove me to the emergency room. Two nights in hospital there (northern Arizona) and then a friend drove me and my truck home to the San Diego area. I was weak and wobbly for a month from blood loss.

I am an experienced hiker and camper, rather afraid of heights, and a generally very careful person. If a dumb thing like this could happen to me, it could happen to anyone. Be VERY careful out there.

After having a few beverages around the campfire, we decided to roast Marshmallows....mine was on a metal pitch fork....burned both upper and lower lips pulling the marshmallow off....just had to keep those cold beverages against my lowewr lip and then tilt it back to lean it agianst my upper lip...of cousre the beverage would have to be open to take away the pain.

Probably walking, not once, but several times on different trips, into the bottom of the front of the fifth-wheel. One time hit it so hard, ended up backwards about 3'. Think I would have learned after the first time. Thunk wrong!! One of the last trips out, was trying to put two sewer hoses, previously used and somehow the wire sticking out of one of the hoses went into my finger and about 1/4" horizontally under the skin! 10 miles from the nearest town, all I could think of how nasty that was, rusty, dirty, etc. Did what I figured would be helpful and hoped for the best. Also, dropped the electric box lid down, cutting my thumb pretty bad. So, in 16 years, would say I have been most fortunate!

Friend while camping in January, A few too many at a B-day party, fell straight back in a chair and cracked head open. Thank God for A First Aid Kit. No one else could drive. Luckily it scabbed over and he survived but it was a pretty good mess for a half hour till we could stop the bleeding. That pretty much finished the night for all of us.

While camping in North Georgia with a group, one of our photographers decided to step OVER a safety rope at the TOP of a waterfall area. The sign said that PEOPLE Have Died from falls -- You know, to their death....so why this individual felt the photo opportunity was worth it??

Anyhow, it is amazing how your brain processes the SLOW MOTION of watching a fellow camper as she lost her footing and began to quickly slide on her backside toward the edge of what was going to be a 80 foot fall.

Somehow, she managed to pull a cat-like manuever and twist and grab for a hand hold. She walked away with severe scrapes on knees, elbows and ego. It was the most horrifying slow motion I've ever witnessed.

you don't want to know, when we camp, it involves 4x4s and that is dangerous. I have seen broken ribs, legs, vertebre, and rolls that loose fingers.

If you want to talk about 4-wheeling safety, we stress it for these reasons. I have not had any of these, but safety rules were broken and warned before each of these happened (except the broken back, equipment malfunctioned)
