We are looking for a campground for 3-4 days next April. We prefer a state or county campground but happily handle private as well.

We are snow birders returning from winter in Florida and would like to explore Savannah.

Ft McCallister State Park. Just south of the city in Richmond Hill. Easy drive in.

Skidaway State park is the only one that I know of. It's 10 to 15 miles to downtown.

Will second Fort McAllister. Let me share some Georgia/Florida coastal facts. Most of the state parks along the east coast have a marsh area close by. The result is that camping in these marsh/coastal areas during April and without a breeze can lead to an infinite amount of No-See-Ums or as we call them "Flying Teeth". Cooler times of the year makes for much better camping in these wonderful habitats.

Ft. McAllister SP is very nice and close in. Stayed there last month. Large level sites. Many people on this forum prefer Skidaway. From the posts I've seen don't think you would go wrong there either. We plan to go back to Ft. McAllister when we have more time maybe in the fall.

We stay at River's End on Tybee Island, which is a private park, when we go to Savannah. Nice clean, close to the beach and about 10 miles from Savannah. We have gone there several times and will again this summer.

If you don't necessarily want to be near the beach, try Whispering Pines in Rincon GA. Nice quiet place, Walmart near by, and about 20 minutes to the riverfront area of Savannah.

We stayed at and enjoyed Skidaway one Thanksgiving. Don't arrive after dark - navigating would be difficult. Try to see the giant sloth skeleton at the park in the museum.

Also, We are trying Ft. Mcalister for variety soon. Have heard great things about it.
