Hi,

You can do the "Dollar Bill Test" and see if the gasket is a little weak. Close the door on a dollar, and see if it pulls out easiely, and then move the dollar up and down the gasket, to see if there is a gap.

Usually it is humidity leaking into the freezer that causes the frost.

Fred.

Maybe a bad door seal. Try cleaning the door frame and rubber gaskets with rubbing alcohol.

Many rigs will make a sound as if the air is being sucked out of the fridge or freezer when the door is first closed.

Frost = moisture.

Then, you should look up the mfgr web site FIRST with the Model and Serial numbers in hand. They can usually give pointers.

Otherwise, you may get a lot of unhelpful flak from here, but maybe the occasional useful comment if we know make and model of the compnent, not the rig itself.

I bought a no frost deep freezer for my garage. The garage temp is not controlled and the freezer was icing up. I put a 25lb weight on the lid and it stopped about 75% of the problem. Like the others have said, probably a seal leak. Moisture from the air collects in low temps kind of like dew does on your car windows. Good luck.

Another thing we have found is that putting warm items in the fridge seems to frost it faster. So we now cool before putting away. Humidity in the outside air has a lot to do with it also. Try not to keep the door open as long. Just a few suggestions.

Do not open the door.. (I'm serious)

When you open the door warm moist air enters the Fridge, when it hits the fins at the back the moisture condenses out, the fins are cold, often below freezing, thus frost forms. This is normal operation. The only "Cure" is to occasionally empty it out, turn it off, let it melt and dry, and re-start it

Moving air (use of a fridge fan) MAY, and I stress MAY, warm the fins enough to cut down on it. But frankly... I doubt it.

Don't know how to stop it, but easy to defrost using hand held hair dryer. wipe water up w/sponge and be done quickly.

Contact the refrigerator manufacture and ask the tech department if the model you have has a defrost circuit - if so then it may be bad. Depending upon the method they use it could be a simple DIY fix.

Good luck and let us know if/how you resolve your problem.

Fred forgot to mention that it has to be a hundred dollar bill to properly test the gasket seal....
