I have read here about people having wiring problems with workhorse chassis's in the steering columns.Does anybody know if there are any recalls for this problem,or are they covering it beyond warranty? My buddy has a 2005 GMC 5500 work truck. When he tilts the steering wheel all the way down the dash sometimes goes blank. If he tilts the wheel back up the dash comes back.Just wondered if anybody know's of any "silent recalls".

A GMC 5500 is not a Workhorse chassis, it is a medium duty GM chassis. What Workhorse and GM do will be completely different.

I am aware of no issues with the wiring harness on the Workhorse, however if you pop over to IRV2 forums http://irv2.infopop.cc/eve/forums/a/frm/f/8626012545

You will find out more about workhorse than you ever wanted.. Here is the same link again

There is a "Secret Recall" (TSB) on the dash display on some units and one that is well published on fuel clips on selected 8.1L vortecs, This one is a GM recall since they made the engine but you need a WORKHORSE dealer to fix it

A common problem on some Workhorse chassis is the wiring harness in the steering column was pulled too tight during a manufacturing step. As the steering wheel is tilted back and fourth or just normally bouncing down the road, the harness will rub on a sharp edge at the top of the steering column and eventually cause wierd electrical problems. A simple fix is to place something like plastic electrical loom or something similar over the sharp edge to protect the wiring harness. That's what they did to mine and no problems since.

A workhorse may be a Chev, but a Chev is not a workhorse

Workhorse is a division of Navistar--last time I checked Navistar wasn't owned by GM.

Which of course is not correct either and they won't work on it under warranty as I recall and that is stated on their web site.
