We will be taking a trip to Nevada in July. That is still on. We had thought about extending it into California, to see some relatives, and visit some old stomping grounds, but trying to juggle everyone's schedule, plus the cost of the extention into California, (not just fuel cost) we decided to put it off until next year. It would be nice if fuel doesn't take another "quantum leap", but if it does, we will go anyway. Like someone said, it's probably cheaper than hanging around town and burning up fuel going nowhere.
Other issues are keeping me close to home this year. Gas prices will not keep me from a RV vacation, because of my priorities. When I weigh the freedom, convenience and contact with the outdoors versus the hassle of air travel and the isolation of hotels, RV travel wins hands-down. Of course, I'm also a hunter/fisherman/hiker/outdoors kind of guy, as are my wife and daughter. I travel by air and stay in hotels for business more days a year than I care to count.
If your priorities are different, that's OK with me. If gas prices are keeping you home then that means less traffic and more campsites for me and other like-minded RVers.
Yep, no more long distance travel for me. Going from Tampa to Va mountains once a year in April and back in Sept is the norm for my future. I'll miss seeing the Tetons and Yellostone etc. again but I just can't afford the fuel cost of rambling the way I have for the past six years, (heavy sigh). Been to Alaska and Nova Scotia so I've seen it all. Don't look for me and don't feel sorry for me, I'm happy with what I have. I think I'll just go trout fishing in the morning, as I only have to walk to the stream, about 20 feet, (again heavy sigh). Ed
If anyone is canceling trips because of high fuel prices now, forget about going in the future. Do you really think fuel prices will decline significantly in the future? I believe in a year or two, we will be looking back and think today's fuel prices were cheap.
Well, we spend over $3000 just on gas this winter - twice what we did last year, and even more than the year before. I can't say we're cancelling, but we're sure thinking about places to spend the winter that will be closer to home, even if they're a bit cooler.
Well, I am, and I guess I can stand tall as the only one, apparently. Being on a fixed income, and living in a 100 acre retirement community, the pressure to get out there is small. Fuel prices are a big problem here in Calfiornia. $4.49 to 4.69 are what are around me. I know it is cheaper if I get out of the state. It was much cheaper in Pahrump when I was there last month, for example. I think we will try and get out maybe once a month or so. One thing I really love about retirement is, my income is fixed and not affected by the stock market, and i do not have to drive anywhere, really. I can have the local grocer deliver, in fact.
So, for me, saving money for a long trip sounds like a good plan. If fuel prices really go keep going up, the rv lifestyle is not rosy.
over the hill and enjoying the view
diesel pickup and 5th wheel trailer.
Going seasonal this year, about 2 1/2 hours north of home, not because of the fuel prices, just because, need a year to take it easy, will go up most weekends and do alot of boating, what I save not traveling goes into the boat fund for fuel.
I quit smoking and drinking, who cares about fuel prices lol.
There is a method to the madness, disturb the method and the madness begins.
