We are looking for some help with links or Manufacture names that sale or modify travel trailers for folk that have disabilities…so you’ll have an understanding of what we are up to; I work in a recreation department on a Marine Base that provides facilities and equipment for the Marines and their families. As all know, this desert vacation we have been sending them on has some of them coming home not as they went over. As these injuries have left them in various levels of physical condition the RV would be utilized by just about all types of disabilities and must be capable of handling crutches to wheel chairs… While they are recovering they live in our newly created Wounded Marine Battalion and think a Travel Trailer set up correct would be a real asset for speeder recovery, as they could get a break from the Barracks. Sorry for the long post, but wanted you to know what we are trying to accomplish. Thanks and Semper Fi

Jack, there are some really good people who are themselves disabled veterans or who work with them and who might be able to get you where you need to be.

I'd start by giving the folks at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial here in Angel Fire, NM a call. They have a pretty extensive network of good people, some of whom have helped my dad (100% disabled).

I am hesitant to reply as there is nothing I could say that wouldn't sound inadequate when writing on the topic of America's true unsung heroes. So, I guess I won't even try.

As to trailers that would fit the needs of disabled personnel, toyhualers seem like they would fit the bill. Big doors and open floorplans would make it easier to maneuver with wheelchairs or crutches than the typically cramped travel trailer floorplans.

I will see what i can find for you. My family has a non profit 501(c)(3) public charity organization and we do home and bathroom renovations for the Disabled Veterans here in AZ. http://goodmanfamilygivingcenter.blogspot.com/ We have even talked of doing this to trailers and Motor homes. We had no idea someone was doing this already.

I have seen this site before: http://www.startrackslifts.com/ .

This may sound like a strange idea but please take it in the nature it's intended. Toy haulers may be very accessible! They have a huge garage door and are very roomy inside. There is the problem of opening and closing the big door but fwiw.

Thank you for your service.

New Horizons does custom builds. I would imagine they would be willing to work on Universal design. Good luck.

I don't have any specific info for ya, but if you look around on the site I know I have seen quite a few people on here that have had RVs adapted to suit various disabilities. Think this is a great idea, and I wish you the best of luck with it. I will keep my eyes peeled for more info also.
Good luck!

Sunline Coach Co. used to make units for the disabled - I think it was called the Advancer. Oversized doors, lift system for chairs, easy access restroom, etc. Unfortunately they went out of business last year. Maybe there are some unsold units remaining, or you may be able to get a hold of the design and contract someone to build. Just a thought.

Look for SunlineClub.com there is spot on there for old brochures and they have one for these there I think.

Found the link for it:

Sgt. Maj. (from looking at your signature block) just as an aside, as you look into this as an idea also note that with all the "chemical" issues which have been raised by the CDC and FEMA there may be some push back with regards to playing recovering Marines in TTs.
