We are in the Elkmont Campground at the moment. Food King is in town and is a substantial grocery store with the normal prices. It's the turn up the hill at the Hard Rock Cafe at the traffic light. There is also a post office, NAPA, and laundromat on same road. Distance from Elkmont Campground to Food King is 5-6 miles??
Bears Bears Bears. We've a little video on our website of a bear sticking his tongue out eating something. We go looking for bears each evening just before nightfall. We've seen them 50% of the time on the hill just below Laurel Falls/Mahoney Point on the south side of the road. Look into the various gullys and hillsides. Maikel also saw a bear in Cades Cove when he was bike riding. The folks there said he has just missed three of them.

The shower in our trailer's a bit to confining for me. How far does one have to go say from Cades Cove for a shower? Also interested in folks preferences of campgrounds in the park. Thanks
I have not seen public showers in Cherokee or Gatlinburg but we did not look for showers either so they might be there.
Maybe your choice of campgrounds depends upon what you want to do while there. What do you need to be close to? Do you want quiet or don't mind a busy campground?
We're thinking of spending three nights in the park, do some light hiking, see some waterfalls & wildlife(hopefully), quiets good.
Then, move to a private campground in Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge area for 3-4 nights.
While I haven't stayed at either campground (yet), I have driven thru Cades Cove and Elkmont, and they look like beautiful places to stay.
If you plan on using a tote tank for waste, something to keep in mind is that Cades Cove has a dump station right there in the campground. Elkmont however, has no dumpstation, though one is located off of one of the park roads several miles away.
We just left Smokemont this morning after spending 2 nights on the south side of the park. There isn't any camp store at the campground. But Cherokee is just a few miles away. The husband caught 2 trout in the little creek that runs right through the campground. Yum! Dinner last night was quite a treat!

I'm jealous! I'd love to get there this time of year but usually have to wait until June.
