OK guys... Where and how do I lift my 5ver since when I push the button to extend the jacks all I get is a clicking (gears must be stripped) I have an atwood motor in there and it runs but seems really loose and will not extend the landing gear to lift me onto the truck. Ideas?

Should be a hole on the left side for the manual crank, havent seen one without a manual landing gear access.

There is and I have not tried it however I... well you are probably correct... that should still work even with stripped gears as I think they are the gears hooking the motor to the landing gear... Ill try the manual crank tonite.

Sorry to hear you are having problems with your landing gear. You may have to unhook the landing gear motor to move the landing gear by using the hand crank. If you can not crank it down by hand try this: On some fivers, the landing gear assembly is bolted to the frame of the trailer. Look at your landing gear and see if it is bolted to the frame. If it is you should see the frame beside the landing gear. You can jack on this frame a little and move the landing gear down with the hand crank or one hole at a time. The small amount of twisting should not hurt the frame. Your fiver may not be this way but my fiver has the frame exposed and I can jack the front and extend the landing gear about an inch at a time. This takes a long time but it should get you on your way. Hope this helps.

check your drive shaft to see if you have not broken your pin.it is used to connect both of the jacks together
they break when you raise the jacks up too high

Hand crank. Ours has a hole on the drivers side next to the switch to insert the hand crank. Good luck.

Before I started upbolting anything, I would try the hand crank. The hand crank may fix the problem. If that doesn't work I would call the trailer manufacturer and ask their advice. Next step would be to call an RV garage and talk to them.

It would be unusual for both jacks to fail at the same time. It sounds like you have checked all of the external gears. There are tin covers on the top of each jack. Under them there are gears. You might check them. I would think the problem is the pin that connects the motor to the gears. Put jack stands under the trailer so it stays up. You can pull the pin for the crossover shaft and using a wrench or vice-grips turn the right side jack an see if it comes up. If it does try the vice grips on the shaft for the left jack. If it comes up the problem is between the motor and the jack. Good luck.

As you can see the advice is all over the place. I had my jack strip out and I quickly learned after checking with fellow RVers that not all RV's are made the same. Some rigs have two motor jacks while most have just one. Some RV's are assembled so that you can see the jack, gearbox, and bar linking the two landing gears. In the case of my rig Holiday Ramble assembled it in such a way that I had to take a utility knife out and remove a large piece of plastic to get to the landing gear. Everything was covered by plastic shelfs that were not meant to be removed.

When I decided to replace the motor I found that the dealers wanted about $250 for a new motor. I also found that two different bolt patterns are used by the industry for the motors. Fortunately the gear box had been drilled with five holes accomodating both bolt patterns. I never did price out replacing the gears because I figured the same dealer would probably take me to the cleaners on new gears. I went to Ebay and found for about $50 you could get a new or slightly used motor. Heres an Atwood Motor for way less than $250.
