NADA puts the value at 5287 LOW, 6637 CLEAN, and 7687 HIGH... $6,00 is fair. Teh car is good condition. I have bought many cars, and Lexus (read Toyota) are the best. Good deal, maybe, but if you could talk him into a bit less, go for it.

Those of you saying 2500, come on, sell your car and I will low ball you, see how it feels.

AZLetendre, I think the $2,500 dollar guys know that wouldn't buy it.

NADA and Kelley Blue Book prices vary widely from one another on this car. Actually, the Black Book Value is the most reliable for this or any used car. The Black Book records what cars actually sold for at auction. This car is owned by a private owner, not a dealer.

My intention is not to buy it as a classic, but to buy very reliable transportation, a safe auto, with somewhat low-miles, in great condition, that would drive for another 5 or more years w/o needing much if any major repair work or associated costs. The Lexus brand fills the need in spades, with a 4.8 out of 5 stars on this '92 model. The age vs. mileage issue for what price, is all in the decision making process.

I have a sweet tender nature, however I enjoy sharing my thoughts and opinions.

I'll pay $4200 if it runs with no major problems apparent. I'll fix the front fender for $250, do a $150 detail, and a $300 mechanical going over. Then I would ask $6995 and the first guy with $6,000+ will own it and that won't take long.

Nobody but me has any money because they are paying for what they already financed on credit cards and their home has depreciated to a minus value. Today's cars are basically worthless because any day now the diesels that are hidden in Europe and get 150mpg will be introduced. If I buy it, eventually I'll have to spend another $5,000 on it.

Strategy:

Offer the guy $2500 for it and he better not start that "I have to talk to my wife." BS. When he turns me down, walk to the nearest exit and return home to post on the Forum about your experience and wait for him to call back begging for your business. Immediately start an Internet search throughout the U.S. for another Lexus because times are bad and these prices have to come down. Post a new topic on the Forum about obscene fuel prices and CEO pay and how it is trickling down to the average American trying to sell his used car. Last but not least, call Warren and ask him what he would advise?
Interesting.

The Lexus is only actually worth $4,200, to you as a BUYER,
however, if you were the SELLER it "magically" becomes worth $6,995?

Most businessmen don't volunteer their cash and time, spend money improving the product, and then sell for no profit. Call Warren for advice, he has that concept down to a science!

I generally like the older Lexus except for one annoying thing, and that is because doors usually end up looking just awful over time, and this is just from the typical door dings.

I don't know why that is exactly, it may be because the door design has large flat unbroken sections of metal and it just makes door dings stand out like sore thumbs but most of the older lexus with that body style look rather beat-up.

He's been taking his advise since 1984, I'm sure he's on his speed dial list.

That's just a daily driver around these parts... $1,800 to $2,100, depending on the service records.

We sold my 98 Lexus 400 a couple of months ago for $14,500. It was certainly in your preference zone (except for the price) and was like new.... It sold to the first person that looked at it..We were lucky it sold so fast. We were going to take it the following day to have a picture taken for an ad in Auto Trader. Saved us the cost of running the ad.
Good luck in your search for that car. I loved my Lexus and was sad to see it driven out of the drive-way..

Last I heard, car dealers weren't a non profit organization and did sell vehicles, new & used, above their cost. Warren Buffet advises them to do so in order to make a profit and be able to keep their doors open.
