See what happens when I get a "great deal"? I've been looking for an older 9'ish so I can still easily tow my equipment trailer. I thought I was on to something when the trailer manufacturer said I can extend the tongue on the trailer a couple feet. Well that works great turning but I'd better never leave Kansas.

I guess I need some sort of extended hitch. What works best for the money? I need at least 24". I was told I'd be spending about $1300 with install.

I have a Reese Tow Beast with a 24" extension, I think the whole thing cost less than $500 and installed it myself. Works wonderful. Torklift also makes one that is little more heavy duty. This picture is actually of my last truck, I now have it on my dually.

Check out Northern tools. I bought mine there and it has worked fine. Keep in mind that when you extend, you lose tounge weight capacity.

Sorry for the double post but there was an error when posting.

Torklift hitch is probably the best and very substantial. Extending the trailer tongue is probably not a real good idea especially if the TC overhang drops down in back. Dips and transitions could cause the trailer tongue to collide with the bottom of the TC. Ideally you want the pivot point to be just out from underneath the overhang. There are other hitch & extensions available, and some in a 2 1/2" size. I prefer the TL hitch with the doubled 2" reciever. It will pretty well cover any possible scenarios you might come up with for a towed load that the truck can handle. It also allows you to use the standard 2" parts you likely already have. It is not light, but I was able to install mine by myself with a little engenuity. (ratcheting straps work wonders)
Buying it online direct was my method, and I think it offers a good price break.
You would need proper tools and be able the deal with the install or know of a place to do it for you.

Sorry, I should have stated how much I'll be towing. Usually no more than 9000, but if I tow Dad's race car, it could get up to 14,000. Will that tow beast handle that?

Tongue weight is the issue here.

tongue weight...14k towing....What kind of TC truck combo do you have? The hitch might be rated ok but....

I have a 06 GMC DRW D/A with a AF 990. I would never think I could tow an additional 14k safely.

We have been toying with the idea of getting a toy hauler or an enclosed trailer to tow behind. I think I only have about 10k of towing capacity left. I havent even got to the touge weight yet.

I have an 07 Dodge 2500 diesel. I'm not worried about moving the weight, I hauled Dad's car trailer with my AF 860. I downgraded to an older longer camper (10.9 Western Wilderness). This camper weighs about the same as the AF did but I didn't have to deal with the rear overhang.

My Dad gave me a name of a welding shop that he knows of that specializes in towing mods. I want to be safe and legal as economically as I can.
