Well I know everyones heard this story....... daughter and her little freinds decide they want to watch TV in the 5er, so Emily gets out the step stool and cranks up the antenna so they get better reception during their play RV campin' trip....now comes the problem I go and hook up to the 5er later in the week and we are all ready to go campin'......antenna made it it the 2nd corner were we here this strange noise ....kinda sounds like a pepsi can being run over...Emily says Dad I wonder if that tree hit the antenna....I then ask why would it do that Em and she says I might have forgot to put it back down when we were playin'.....so you guessed it ....so has anyone replaced the crank up gears in a wineguard antenna? My dealer actually has them in stock ($4.52). imagine that!!!! Doesn't look to be to difficult but maybe some suggestions might help. thanks.... rick

Yup been there done that. It's pretty easy, take the pins out and insert the new gear in the leg...(from he top) and ease it in the position, if it doesn't fit, go back in the rig and turn the handle to the up position. Put the pins back in and you are good to go. (those little pin holders can fling off so watch it...)

honestly I don't remember what I did , but it went it eventually...you'll figure it out.

Welcome to the club. :0

I believe I read where antennas will be obsolete after this year. You might want to look at satelite. Just a thought...

Sarcasm?

I'll bite....TV Ant's will be out of date for non HD broadcasts, most WineGard units are both HD and Non HD compatible. All you need is the HD tuner in the TV.

As for DTV, yes that works well.

Antennas are antennas. Digital TV signals are using the same frequencies as VHF and UHF analog television. If you can pick up analog TV with your antenna now, you can pick up digital TV now and after the transition in February.

"Digital ready" antennas are merely a marketing ploy.

Link to the Winegard Manual.

It has the installation instructions that show the assembly of the antenna, so you should be able to determine what you need to do to replace the gear.

I had been telling the wife that I wanted to get a satellite dish on top of MH. So one day with MH in garage, I had cranked up the antenna, don't remember why. Forgot it was up and drove out of garage. Heard same noise that you heard. Plus Wife starts with "I guess you are going to tell me that was an accident...yada-yada-yada..... Of course since I had to replace it anyway, just as soon go back with a wineguard combination sat and antenna unit. To this day, she claims that I did that on purpose, of course I didn't. (ya-right)
