I have a perplexing problem with the satellite system in an ’04 Journey.
The satellite receiver output goes into a control center as a video source. From the control center it can be directed as a source for 2 different TVs and a DVD/VCR.
When the front TV source is the bat-wing antenna, I get a perfect picture. With the DVD/VCR as the source I get a perfect picture.
When I push the button to use the satellite as the source for the front TV, I get a VERY snowy picture. It’s really not usable. Pushing the button to use the satellite as the source for the rear TV, we get a perfect picture on the rear TV.
I hooked the satellite receiver output directly to the front TV. Same result.. snowy picture.
I restored it to the original wiring configuration. Then I selected the DVD/VCR source as the satellite and the front TV source as the VCR…perfect picture.
Why would using the DVD/VCR in the loop “fix” the picture quality when having the TV hooked directly to the receiver result in a snowy picture? Also, why would I have a bad picture on the front TV, and a great picture on the rear TV?
I originally thought it might be interference from the receiver causing the snow in the picture because it is close to the TV. But, since I can get a great picture using the DVD/VCR in the loop, I don’t think that is the problem.
My TV set has to set on channel 3 to get SAT TV, any other channel and I would get a snowy picture also, even though it goes through a switch box,it still had to be o chan#3 did you check this already??
Unless there's something you've left out, I'd say the switcher "sat" position for the front TV, has a defect in the switcher. Wire it to another output that DOES work (known good position) and see if it solves the problem. In other words, select DVD/VCR and make sure it works. Then leave the switch there, but, move the source for that input to the sat output.
I'm making an assumption here that you are using ALL RF outputs and no baseband. If you have baseband inputs to the switcher, than ignore the above.
Now, if you're saying that you take the "RF out" of the satellite receiver/modulator, and then you attached it directly to the front TV receiver tuner and you had a snowy picture, then you've stated two conflicting things. (again, if you're using RF) If the source for the rear TV is "THAT SAME CABLE" for the rear TV, thru the switcher, then I'd have to say simply, "that doesn't compute." If that single RF output from your satellite is the only output from the satellite touching your switcher, you already know it's good, because the rear TV works. So, taking the only RF out from your satellite and attaching it to the front TV ant/cable input HAS to work. Once again, ALL BETS ARE OFF, if you have ANY baseband connections from the satellite receiver to the switcher. In that case I'd say may have a number of things, but I'd guess, with no additional information, you have the RF output of the sat. receiver set to channel 4, instead of 3.
If you want, bring it over to the house one weekend and we'll look at it together if you'd like.
Check and make sure your front tv is set to the same channel as your rear tv.
