Hoping to get some real world experience before I do something stupid. I have a Palomino pop up. I am planning a trip to Tennesee this summer for an extended stay. It is going to be hot, and I was thinking about getting a 7,500 BTU portable A/C unit to take with me. My question is whether the EU2000i will have enough juice to fire up the A/C? Also, does anyone have any experience with portable A/C units in their truck camper? I realize it takes up a bit of room, but I can deal with that, if it will keep the camper cooler. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Check the Watts and the Amps. of the unit you are going to be using and compare to the gen. Good luck.

I have 9k A/C unit and my Honda 2000 would not run it.

the portable a/c I am looking at has the following specs:
# Power Consumption Cooling: 880W
# 7,000 BTU
# Operating Current: 7.1 amps
# Power Supply: 115V / 60Hz
the Honda EU200i specs:
AC Output: 120V
2000W max.(16.7A)
1600W rated (13.3A)
I am no electrical engineer, but according to my math...it should handle it no problem. But I also know that strange things happen in the real world.

I agree, according to the math the EU 2000 should "run it"
the only missing factor is the AC unit start up amps?
I currently have a 11.5 AC unit and the EU 2000i works however, I have no extra amperage to spare.
If the EU 2000 does not meet your expectations then I would recommend getting 2 each EU 2000 before going to the EU 3000.

The EU2000i will only be powering the portable A/C....I have a battery bank to power the rest of the camper....I guess the best thing will be to buy the A/C and see what happens, I can always take it back. Thanks for all the advice.

I have a 6500 btu window unit in my remodeled Scotty Camper and my eu2000i honda generator does ok.

I have a 11K btu unit on my camper. Full load cooling is 9.4amps. The honda runs it fine, but not on eco mode.

I have a 5000 BTU A/C unit that my generator will run from idle. Only pulls 4.9 Amps running. Such a small compressor that it easily starts. My generator will also run a 13,500 BTU roof top A/C, but the RPMS increase to about 2/3 throttle.
I would expect the Honda to have no problem starting and running a 7,500 BTU A/C unit. You have more than twice the capacity available. You should also find that the RPMs drop significantly when in the eco-mode. Looks like an ideal sized generator/air conditioner combo to me.
