I have a 40' KZ New Vision I am towing with a diesel Ford F250. I am thinking of upgrading to a Freightliner M2 with a Mountain Master conversion and an air ride hitch. Anyone already done this? Happy or sad about it?? Any drawbacks - other than the payments? I have not actually purchsed it, still dancing with the salesman. There is a used one with 10k miles on it but they will not come down on the price much. I am guessing there is some wiggle room in the price, particularly with diesel being $4.30 a gallon. Anyone know for sure?

Thanks in advance..

It sounds like a good idea. Your Ford has to be overloaded.

I know this isn't a Freightliner, but for comparison:
We have a comparable International 4700. We lucked out and found it for less than $20K. Wouldn't go back to towing with the smaller trucks. Don't have to rely on trailer brakes to stop the outfit now. The truck doesn't even know the Weekend Warrior is back there. We bought ours used. It was a rollback. The original owner kept the rollback. We shortened the frame 4' and added a 9' flatbed. The bed is pinned at the front when in towing mode; otherwise, it has hydraulic cylinders, gets a wooden box, and is used for heavy duty hauling and dumping around the farm. As far as the price of fuel, the International gets the same fuel mileage (14 mpg) regardless of load and that's needing injector seals. We've been told that most likely mpg should increase to about 15-16 mpg when those are done. The Dodge gets 24-26 mpg unloaded but when the beast (not even loaded) was behind it we only got 10 mpg.

Get a used diesel pusher and an enclosed trailer instead for the same overall cost as your 5er and the mountain master, unless you have other uses for it the MM is just going to be sitting with the trailer.

I'm in the same situation. I have a 38 foot Fuzion 362, pulling with a F-350 SRW CC Short box. I need a dually at minimum. When I upgrade, I'm considering a Freightliner P2 Low Bed. This truck has a full size Dodge bed set low on the frame. You can still use it like a pick-up.

Anyone with Freightshaker experience, please share your thoughts and stories.

I am waiting till this Summer when Freightliner comes out with their new truck.

It is a 4x4 crew cab with a pickup bed low enough to accomodate a fifth wheel. It looks really killer too!

Went the same route. Started pulling our 39' KZ Sportsmen Sportster with a Dodge Cummins 2500. Pulled OK but a little spooky with quick stops. Upgraded to an International 4700. Stoping was better but did not pull as well as the Dodge (about same HP and torque but a lot more weight in the truck). Finally succumed to the dark side and went with a HDT. Nothing better than pulling a 20K# trailer with a vehicle built to haul 80K#. Fuel mileage pulling is about the same as the Dodge and the International. Save yourself time and money by going right to the top.

I prefer a Kenworth to either. Check out the link below for info on MDT vs HDT's You'll find the HDT winners and cheaper. Did I say CHEAPER....HDT'sMDT's
