Sorry here is the link to the HDT's. Most started small and went up, just about all say if they could go back they would have gone big first and not spent all the money they have over the years. HDT's
These folks are offering great advice, most of it based on experience not hearsay. Skip the MDT -- more money, less economy, and much less power. I,too, would never have wasted time and money on 1-tons and MDTs if I gone to the HDT route earlier. No looking back now, we're wiser now! Pocket the extra $50K and tow in unmatched comfort and safety.

Almost did what your considering... Price was an issue because I was looking at custom interiors, The standerd stuff didn't thrill the wife. It would have been my only vehicle (besides my bikes) and I couldn't see driving that to the store Plus I like my 4X4's. I Looked at the new Ford's and you can get all you'll ever need in a 450 of 550 and still use it for a people hauler and take it anywhere to get fixed. The bigger trucks do get mileage simular to the big diesel pick-up trucks and if bigger is better to you why not?
I know everything on my F450 will cost more but can you imagine what a brake jop will cost on a Freightliner M2 and how few shops will work on them. and try a quick oil change place !!!!!!

Monday threw Friday Pacar built Peterbuilts. With the left over parts they built a Kenworth.
Where did my post go on this???
Well I'll try one more time > I almost went the route your considering but heres what i came up with, First besides my motorcycles my truck will be the only thing I have to drive (wife still works and has the small car). I just can't see me taken the Freightliner M2 to the store or buying yet another car. All the big trucks didn't have a very nice interiors in them and the custom interior'ed ones were much more $$$$. True the fuel economy is about the same and you can carry a whole bunch of fuel, but you can't take it to the quick oil change places, you can't take it to the quarter car wash (unless they have an outside bay) Yes you can take it to a truck wash and pay by the foot!, Limited to where I can take it to get fixed or get parts to do it myself, I know how much it cost to do a brake job on my F450 ( how many more times does it cost to do a one on a Freightliner M2)? For example an injector for my ford is around 400 bucks, one for the M2 is around 12 to 1800 bucks in your hand.. true the M2 motor is gonna last near 800,000 miles.
My Ford F450 has a turning radius around 16 feet smaller than an F350 , really nice in tight places. It's rated to pull a 20K 5er with a 4.30:1 axle and if i would've gotten the 4.88:1 axle option a 24 K trailer what more do ya wanna pull?
I could do 2 hours worth of pros n cons but the loosing of my truck (and it's bed) as a near daily drive is the biggie for me!
Thank you .. thank you... thank you... I appreciate the comments and suggestions. Yes, this will be the second car - the one my husband takes to the store when he retires. What sort of maintenance is required - stuff that is above and beyond the F250 I have now? What are the costs?
I know a CDL is not required, but would it be a good idea to spend the money and get the training? Air brakes sound a bit intimidating.
Sorry for sounding ignorant, I checked the MDT & HDT website briefly, very briefly, is that that another type of truck or conversion maker? What do the letters stand for?
What do you all think of the Mercedes engine and transmission? More expensive to fix?
Thanks again....
