We have a six-week summer vacation coming up. I am thinking about going to Baja and Southern California. I wonder if it is better to travel via Coahuila, Durango, Chihuahua, and then along the border past El Paso to the Tijuana area or cross the border here at Laredo and go across Hwy 90 through West Texas, New Mexico and Arizona?
I don't want to discuss safety issues here, I just want to know if gas prices will be considerably lower on the Mexican side then on the American side as in most cases the prices mirror, somewhat, each other.
Thanks in advance for your first-hand experience and recent gas price purchases on the Mexican side of the border.
For some reason Chris, the prices are lower on the border now, than in the interior. Diesel was 5.97p/ltr($2.15/gal) inland and 5.73p/ltr($2.03/gal) at the border, in March. Right now fuel in the states is high with diesel going for $4.35 and gas at $3.56 today, where we're at. I would stay in Mexico as much as possible myself.

Thanks Texan. That's why I am asking. I checked gas prices on Gas Buddy close to the border cities as much as I could and it seemed just to high for Mexico to copy.
I am looking for a Mexican site that reports fuel prices on this side, like maybe truckers.
We are a fronterra, Chris, and diesel is running 5.76 right now. I'll make a point to check gas (we generally only fill up once a month) prices next time I see a Pemex.

I purchased gasoline in Nuevo Progreso, across from South Texas, in the "frontera" area this afternoon. The price was 7.49 peso/liter, which converts to about $2.59 a gallon at the current exchange rate of 10.6 to the dollar. Gasoline is selling for about $3.399 just across the bridge in us, so you will save about 80 cents per gallon. The price is cheaper after you get into the interior.

Thanks for all your responses. Looks like we will spend Summer vacation rving on this side of the border.
I have been checking GasBuddy.com and prices vary from 3.60 in Laredo,TX to 4.00 in San Diego,CA.
Although the gas prices remain stable here, the price continues to climb in dollars as it loses value. It wasn't long ago that the dollar cost us 11.20 and today as drtee said, it is around 10.60.
