Just curious if there are any other RV manufactuers that are having issues with valve stems cracking when the RV is less than 1 year old? I know Wildcats by Forest River are having a lot of issues with this.

I cannot say about the trailers, but I can say about the valve stems...I have had 3 or 4 on my car wheels go bad..two of which resulted in tires that went flat while on the road......they were installed when the tires where installed and were only a couple years old,I bought all at Wally Mart .......it appears that quality production materials were not used.......it would be interesting to find out if they were manufactured in China......If the tires came from China I would bet the stems did too......

I have already replaced the valve stems on our 07 Wildcat same problem. You may want to look at steal stems.

i have had the same issues with my Wildcat and replaced the stems with high pressure metal ones.I do not think it is one manufacturer that has a problem. A few of my friends with Rv's of other manufacturers have had similar issues.Probably made in China.I am also convinced that a lot of tire blowouts that we read about on these forums are due to these bad stems.

This is the first I've ever heard of "bad" valve stems. I do know to check the air valve thingy in the stem when I replace tires, I have a couple little stem tightener tools laying around to make sure the inside of the stems are tight. Almost all of my "tire work" is done by a local garage, they know me and do excellent, dependable work. Tires are the ONLY thing keeping you on the road, so make sure you have the work done by someone you trust.

Tvov, the stems seem to be cracking around the base. You would not see it unless you got down and actually bent the stem over. Seems to look like old age rotting of the rubber. My brand new, never used, covered spare tire stem was the same way.

I don't run rubber valve stems on any of my tires. I run metal stems on all Truck and 5th wheel, Car Hauler and Gooseneck Trailers. I also run the Pressure Pro monitoring system on all Trailers and Truck. China has a serious problem with Tires and probably valve stems also? The RV industry are still buying the China Bombs is unbelieveable. I also have Mission and Freestar on Car hauler and the Gooseneck. But will not run anything but the Goodyear 614's on the 5th wheel. I believe you must run the pressure on the side walls of the China made tires. For some reason they seem to heat up when the pressure is the least bit low. GBY...

I had the same problem with cracked valve stems on my 5er wheels. In fact, one stem completely blew apart. Lucky it did so while parked at the storage lot.
According to the tech at Les Schwab, there was a big lot of valve stems from China that were bad, and showed up in the US during 2006 & 2007. If your 5er was made during the second half of 2006 thru the first half of 2007, check those stems. My 5er was made in Jan. '07.

My fiver had steel stems on it when I bought it but it also had stem extenders. The extenders leaked enough to cause problems, so off they came. I highly recommend replacing the rubber stems with steel ones at the next tire change, if not sooner, and not using any valve stem extenders (especially with a TPMS).
In the past year I started looking at where things are made and refusing to buy anything made in China.

Keystone issued a recall on rubber "pop-in" valve stems on their steel wheels on some '07 models, Montana, Challenger, Everest, etc due to leakeage. Aluminum wheels were not affected. My 4 on the ground are aluminum, but they replaced the one on my steel spare for free.
