Again,,,more of your pay is going to the Feds and taxes not the Oil com. They work on a profit system that's how it works on our side of the ocean, Their profit margin was 9% last year. The tax rate was almost double that.

More meals in the camper to cut down on food cost to offset extra cost of fuel. We will still travel but spend less on the 'nice to have' things and worry more about the 'must have'. We'll still have fun. While camped we use the motorcycle whenever possible. At 45 mpg it really helps keep the cost down to see the sights.

Yes, I'm staying in Fla. from now on, and helping our local economy.Last year I did long trips, and it felt like I was in the truck most of the time, this year I'm looking forward to less driving, and more relaxing. Also a $30 dinner on my plate looks better the 7gals. of diesel.

We made the decision last year to do less, but longer trips, driven mostly due to the fact that it isn't until day 3 (day we normally left) that we finally started to actually relax. Thankfully, that was good foresight. We will cut back by doing hamburgers instead of steak, kids won't get so many treats. When we are at the destination, we won't do so many "let's run over here and check it out"...

Like someone else mentioned earlier in the post, these trips are our vacation. We don't do the big trip to Hawaii, Disneyland or anywhere else.

Thankfully Washington state has so many different camping options from Eastern Washington to the mountains to the beaches. Other than Eastern Washington, most areas of the state are a 2 to 4 hour trip from us.

It really torques me off that I finally get into a position to buy myself a new TT and go camping and the gas prices skyrocket, it's ridiculous and there is nothing that can be done unfortunately.

I'm fairly young (30) and was looking forward to our first camping trip alone (not staying with parents in 5er) for my young family (wife, daughters 2 and 4).

I'm not sure so we'll be able to afford too much of it at these prices though! We have some padding but where we live, there isn't too much that is close to us.

For now we are not changing our plans. Since the price of fuel is causing the price of lots of things to rise, we may have to reevaluate our budget later on. This summer could prove to be interesting for fuel prices.

I was ready to buy a TT this year but cancelled out due to the price of gas. It's going to get worse so I might be out of luck on my plans to travel througout the country. I heard a statistic the other day that purchases of new RVs was down 65%. I'm not sure this is reliable but I'm sure gas prices have hurt the industry.

We need to look at the why in all of this. The weak dollar caused by deficit spending no doubt has a part in it. Our leaders are spending us into the toilet.

Wow! I guess these questions hit a nerve. Thanks for the all replies.

Like many of you, we're sticking closer to home (except for one 1000 mile trip) and will camp and RV within 2.5 hours of home. Fortunately living on the eastern edge of Oregon we have wonderful options right here close to home. (Especially the Idaho mountains.)

Thanks again!

I keep seeing people factoring in food into the whole thing. Let's not forget that us human beings have to eat whether you're at home or out camping trying to relax and have a good time. As long as you stick to cooking your own meals while RVing, then the cost of food shouldn't be a big deal. If you limit your dining out while out, you will literally eat pretty much what you eat at home. My wife and I do like to dine out as we don't have children, but we have slowed way down and as gas prices continue to soar we will likely not dine out at all ever, maybe once a month at most.
