We have a smell in our camper that we can't figure out where it is coming from. Even after we clean it and drain everything for winter there is this smell as soon as we open it up. I smell it as soon as we open the door and the smell will even get on clothes. Any suggestions on where the odor can be coming from.

Dead mouse or MICE possibly. Check everywhere possible, look for mouse dropping and things that might have been chewed up or shredded. It might also be some rotten food possible left somewhere in a cabinet. As for the black tank flush it good and use a mild bleach mixture of about 1/4 cup to a gallon of water and add that to the tank and let it sit for a day or two with that mixture then flush it again. Could it be from a pet? As for when you find the source and you want to freshen things up, get a large box of dryer sheets and spread them all around then close it up for a few days. They will make everything smell great. But only do that after you find out where this problem is coming from. Use the dryer sheets when you store over winter to help keep spiders and mice out, it really works. Open containers of baking soda work to absorb odors too.

Your really should be more specific on the type of smell.
I know in TT we just sold we had a smell. Sort of like a musty smell.

In addition to the black tank I would also flush grey tank as Mikesr recommends above. The grey tank can get food stuff in it when washing dishes and really smell. Over time the water in the trap will dry up and allow the smells to come back in the camper. I always put some type of sanitizer back in both tanks and 2 or 3 gallons of water when I finish flushing out the tanks. That really helps with the smells. In addition the hot water tank can produce a rotten egg smell. If that is your smell there is a procedure you can do to help with that. You can search sanitizing hot water heater on this site and find that. Good luck!

I can't explain the smell... Sometimes i think it is the toilet smell but we clean it very well. I noticed the smell shorlty after we bought it. It comes in the house with our clothes and stuff. We have never seen any mouse droppings or anything chewed. We close it up for the winter with a huge box of dryer sheets, this worked well when we had a pop up and it seems to in our self contained.

Our bathroom sink isn't in the actual bathroom it is just as you walk in the door, and that is when i smell it the worse. Could it be something in the sinks pipes or holding area?

Does it make your eyes burn?

What type and brand of tank treatment do you use?
