My husband insists we are going to our winter RV resort in Yuma next fall with our little 19' TT (actual size only 16'!) and spend six months . We used to have a park model there, and before that, a 36' MH and that was fine. We could easily afford a bigger RV but he won't hear of it. I think it's going to be sheer torture for the two of us (and we have a dog, too!). However, he won't listen to reason, so...my question:

I am interested in getting a 'Patty O'Room' or something similar to extend our living area but I am concerned that a high wind might rip the whole awning right off the side, or worse, rip the sidewall off the trailer. Do any of you with small trailers use the patio screen rooms attached to their awning and, if so, do you feel they are secure? Also, what is the longest you have spent in your small TT? Thank you.

Can't answer your question directly but can offer another option. Consider a free standing screen tent rather than the type that attaches to the awning. Less expensive and easier to set up & take down. Good luck.

I think that the patio room would be fine, ours is secured by spikes all the way around the base. But, it depends on what you mean by high winds.

JMO, but I think that 19ft is too small and you will be crawling all over each other, unless it has a huge slideout.

The Patio room would probably be fine. Here's another option to concider http://www.portableporch.com/. It's a nice room if your setup in one place for a long time. My parents spent 4 months in florida in a 18' trailer. The next year they had a much larger one if tells you anything.

Wow--that looks nice! I guess the obvious question is: Should we invest in something like that with the probability pretty low that we would keep the same RV next year?

The add-a-room on my TAB is attached - I have had no problems ( wind up to about 30mph ). Now if you are talking about 50 or more MPH wind then I would take it down or make sure you are positioned with a wind break of some type ( other TT's ) ??

Good luck

I think you have already made up your mind that it won't work, so I'm sure it won't.

I know a person who full times in a 13 foot Scamp.

and others who FT in 16 and 19 ft trailers.

I met a couple from Canada who had a 13 ft Fiberglass trailer and 2 big dogs, they spent 3 months in Florida.

Have you given it a real chance?

Having said all that I understand your plight, My GF did not like my 16 foot fiberglass trailer, I now have a Forest River while it's only 22 foot it has a couch, big dinette, big bed and bath big enough to turn around in.

See not all men are stubborn mules.

Good luck Pete

If you let us know where you live, I'm sure a few of us larger-sized fellas wouldn't mind popping over to your place and roughing up your husband a little until he agrees to buy you a bigger trailer.

Tempting!

pete42: Yes, I'm willing to make it work. My pessimism is based on our experience thus far and I'm just looking for creative ways to make it more comfortable. Your examples of people fulltiming in tiny rigs are very inspiring. I could certainly fulltime by myself in a Class B--my personal needs are few, but DH must have all the comforts of home and HE'S the one who will be unhappy and complaining all the time, not me. Plus, he has Parkinson's Disease so he doesn't get outside much. A nice patio room would be a perfect addition, I think.
