My son has two 65 Buick Skylark Grand Sports in his garage one has a heavy duty receiver under it they were equipped with 401's with 445 ft lbs of torque. He also has a 69 Buick 455 engine that has 370 hp 500 ft lbs of torque safe or not they will definitely pull.

My first tow vehicle was a '69 Pontiac Catalina with a 400 engine. My 2nd tow vehicle was a '72 Chevy Kingswood Estate wagon which was one of the best TVs I have owned. Equipped with a massive radiator, that was one towing machine!

There is a part in the movie when Lucy is driving, and Ricky gets upset that she is driving way too fast.....40MPH. No interstates back then. Most people who towed a trailer did it slowly...or so I have been told by my fore fathers.

When I was a young boy, my family lived in a TT. 8'x 30' and all 5 of us lived in it. That wasn't uncommon then. My Dad was an enlisted man in the Army and money was really tight. He pulled our TT behind a 1954 Pontiac with a straight 8 with auto transmission. He did have trailer brakes and I remember him manually applying the trailer brakes by pulling a lever. I don't remember any details about the hitch.

WOw that is a cool picture! Although I must say it doesnt look like the TT could glide anywhere looks more like a brick on wheels compared todays more streamlined TT thanks for sharing the memories!

I used to tow a 14' trailer with a 1976 Mercury Marquis with a Ford 400 ci engine and a huge radiator and it pulled like a dream. It had a heavy duty welded "full frame" hitch. I think one of the bumpers on that tank weighed more than an entire full sized Cadillac does these days.

I remember my father towing with the family sedan. The car had a huge engine, heavy duty towing package and a weight distributing hitch that was a bear to set up each time we hitched. Remember when gas was 50 cents a gallon?

Just bought a '95 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham. No towing package but it has HD cooling. I might upgrade the 2.93s to 3.42s, delete the stock leveling system and go with a nice airbag system. This should increase the towing from 5000lbs to about 7-8000lbs. With RWD, full frame and the LT1 260Hp/330Tq it should handle anything nicely! Not to mention the intake and headers I have on it. I just need a good TT now. Sold my Dutchmen, and still have the equalizer.
