I have a book: Mountain Directtory West for Truckers, RV, and Motorhome Drivers, which is an excellent resource for letting one know the grades will be steep before one arrives at them. Does anyone know if such a resource is also available for Alaska and Canada?
Not that I am aware of. The Milepost does a pretty good job describing the route almost on a mile by mile basis. The only really steep grade I remember during our trip was the long grade from Valdez to Thompson Pass.

There aren't any really steep grades on the Alaska Highway...the highest pass is only something like 4,000-something feet in elevation. The drive into Skagway and back is pretty steep, though, but that's not on the Alaska Highway.
I asked for the same info awhile back for BC. sidehillsoup asked a friend in the BC government whether there was a publication. As far as I know, he never received a reply, so I assume there isn't one for BC. However, this forum is normally very good at providing info based on highway numbers.

Ain't no mountain high enough for this old rig. Check Rt. 99 south of Lilooleet, 6 milees 13% up and 6 miles 13% down, also one stretch of 1 mile 15%. Use engine brakes as much as possible.

I did finally get a reply and there is nothing available for BC roads, however always remember never go down fast then you came up, you "should" be fine.
