For what it's worth, I just checked to see the current fuel prices on a couple of spots on the Alaska Hiway in Canada.

Current price for a U.S. gallon of regular unleaded in Fort St. John is $4.83 per gallon. A few cents cheaper in Whitehorse, Yukon.Fort St. John

Perhaps my new post as to the "follow-up" is probably off by another $1,500. We all know that there is absolutely no justification for the gas to cost that much more in Alaska and none for it to be that much anyplace in the this country.

I agree about no justification for higher price on diesel BUT in Canada last summer diesel was significantly cheaper than gasoline (all still too high though with their taxes) and fuel in Alaska was significantly cheaper than Canada (again, still too expensive)

I just tankered up in Pto. Montt last night - $675 per cubic metre and that's for bunker crude which is the cheapest fuel you can purchase for a ship like ours. 150 cubic metres per tank x 3 tanks = 300,000 litres = Oh, well, the price of seafood for you just went up.

I will be spending a bunch for fuel on my trip to Ak and have less to spend at places that depend on the tourists in the summer. Surely the Canadians should realize they are hurting there own by doing this. Looks like the more it goes up the more I will be on the side of the road instead of one of there RV parks. I really enjoy the parks cause I can spend a few days to look around there towns and shop. They are hurting there own but at least the grocery stores and fuel stops will make theres huh. But Im still goin (5 1/2 weeks)

That fuel gets trucked to where you buy it from Edmonton, or North Pole or Kenai or Anchorage. Say it takes two days to make the trip. Pay the driver, fuel the truck, all the expenses. Yep, a bit more expensive than the fellow at home 20 miles from the pipeline terminal. where a trip takes an hour and a half.

The Canadians are trying to get fuel to where you need it at a price they can live with. But the world market hits them the same as it hits the rest of us.

We do have alot of taxes on our fuel but remember it is the oil companies setting the price at the pump and most of the Canadian companies are American owned. Apparently the price is right in line with the "BIG BOYS" agenda, not cost, but what they can gouge. Look how much the prices in the US has jumped in the last month. But I digress, if you wait for it to come down you will never go. I leave in a week and damn the torpedoes I am going to have a good time.

Rosher, cool link. I wished I had seen this one for my prior trips. I only used the Flying J link which was limited at best. Thanks for the post.

You are kidding, right? 1.299 x 4 = about US 5.20 per US gallon.
