We are leaving Phx on 3-10 ( if the weather is favorable in OR)
Thanks

Do you mean Dallas or The Dalles? Silver Falls is just east of Dallas. Memaloose State Park is close to The Dalles. If you are planning to hit Crater Lake on the way up (and why wouldn't you? heh), Joseph Stewart is a great park.

Good luck!

If you're staying in or near The Dalles, make sure you're away from the rail line and freeway. The rail line is one of the countries busiest, and unless you want to be woken up every half hour, don't camp near it.

As for parks on the coast, look at THIS PAGE

You can't go wrong with any of the state parks. Every one of the coastline state parks are wonderful. Some are first come - first serve, some take reservations, and some do both.

Don't show up on a Friday or Saturday in the summer and expect to find a space at a first come - first serve park.

Definitely Fort Stevens near Astoria Oregon. It is a great State Park.

I can't tell you anything about the Dalles or Dallas, but the coast I can help with.

Like the others my #1 would be Fort Stevens outside of Astoria. The campsites are great, and the history surronding the area is wonderful, must see stuff.
Near Newport (central coast) try Beverly Beach or South Beach State Parks. Both are popular and nice.

One thing, don't wait for the weather to be favorable in Oregon. Sometimes you just never know what it is going to be like, and this year is no exception. Besides, Oregon has some great inside attractions to see, when it is raining. You will find many up around Astoria, and other parts of the state. You will have a great time rain or shine.

Ainsworth State Park is much quieter than Memaloose. I hear there is a reasonable KOA in Cascade Locks.

So how long are you going for? The coast is outstanding from top to bottom. Several folks have sung the praises of Ft Stevens and Astoria which is wonderful. The state parks in Oregon are all standouts. Cannon Beach RV and the KOA outside of Fort Stevens are also great options for families who like pools.

Nehelem Bay SP is nice, but Cape Lookout SP near Tillamook is one of the best beach campgrounds I have been to. Beautiful beach and a really nice feel to it.

Beverly Beach SP is also a great spot with a short walk to a beautiful beach. This is a good homebase to explore this part of the coast. The family will love Cape Perpetua for wave action, rock formations, and outstanding hiking. Honeyman SP near the dunes is a great park. Sunset Bay SP near Coos Bay is also a beautiful park near great sights. And Harris SP in Brookings is beautiful and a mile from a great little town. The coast takes time, but there is so much to see. You can easily spend a couple weeks there.

A few other standout areas in Oregon are the fabulous Bend area, which probably has more things to see and do nearby than any other area in the state, Crater Lake, Ashland, Silver Falls SP near Salem, and if you want to stay near Portland try Champoeg SP near Newberg. Fabulous state--you will want to return.
