Finally after reading the forum for 2 years we have bought a 5th wheel. Leftover 2007. I am really nervous about towing it. The biggest thing I have towed is a 4000# boat. But my questions I have now are what do I need to buy to use it. Are sewer hoses all the same length? How long of a water hose do I need? Power cord length? What else do I need to get started? Thanks for any info you might have.

Get a decent sewer hose, a clear paddle valve that goes between the sewer hose and the trailer, wheel chocks (I have roto-choks), two 25' white hoses, a 25' gray hose for flushing, a pin lock, a surge suppressor, a water pressure regulator, and a 25-30' extension cord for the trailer. If there's a camping world nearby, go camp near it, and as you set up you'll determine what you need.

Set up in the driveway for a night and pretend to camp. make a list of all the things you needed, add this stuff to your storage space and then go on your first trip knowing full well that you will not have everything with you!! Make first trip close to home or at least to a WalMart so you can get what you forgot!

The Camp Driveway idea is awesome. Is this your first camper? I went from tent to PUP to HTT and just brought the stuff along at each transition. And of course, some purging. HAVE FUN!

You will need:
1. sewer hose and fitings to connect it to the trailer and sewer outlet at the campground
2. water hose for fresh water hook up from the campground to the trailer
3. water pressure regualtor to put on the water hookup at the campground before attaching the water hose.
These three things should get you started.

The electric cord with the trailer should be long enough
The water hose should be 25' at a minimum 50' is beter
The sewer hose should be 20'

The fun of camping is learning what you need. That's why Camp Driveway works so good. If you need something, go into the house and get it.

The first time we went camping, the trailer wasn't level, so we had no refrigeration, and since we forgot the fry pan, we scrambled eggs in a sauce pan. What a fun week end!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The dealer should of given you a starter kit, Yes it'll be junk but you'll know that first couple of times out...then go to camping world and up-grade that stuff and buy lots of things you found you needed but didn't have. Also on this fourm there are lots of list (look under "trailer packing lists" for a start.
But most of all go some place close! so's you can run home to get what you forgot or found you need while camping... in about 6 mos of talking to others and seeing what they got you'll get it. then it's some-more thips to camping world.
But most of all relax and injoy!!!!!!!

No matter what you pack, you will always forget something. The best advice I could give you is (if possible) go with friends the first few times out. That's how I got over my "RV jitters". Of course I mean go with friends that have their own 5er or TT. They can show you how to use everything and have probably "been there and done that" when it comes to problems. It's always comforting to know your buddies are camped right next door if you need anything. They can also help you NOT forget things like leaving your stabs down, your antenna up, your front levelers down, your stairs down, etc.

Inside you will need most of what you have in your house. Kitchen stuff, bathroom stuff, entertainment stuff, bedroom stuff. Make lists of what you think you will need. Look around and see what you think you might want with you. And as others have said camp close to someone you know and/or someplace you can buy what you need. Two way radios are a must in my opinion for backing up. DW can tell you what you can't see and if you are going to hit something. Good luck on your maiden voyage.

One thing I found I needed when I moved from a TT to a 5er. My 5er has a 50 Amp connector and many of the parks only provide a limited number of 50 Amp sites so I bought an adapter to connect my 50 Amp shore line to the 30 Amp receptacle. I bought this at my RV dealer.
