Has anyone checked out Tropical Palms new rates on their sites for March 2009? Are they crazy!! The last two years we've been going to Fort Wilderness, but my brother is renting a cottage and asked if we'd consider staying at TP again. I just checked out the rates and for a supersite they're charging $85.00 per night plus $3.00 resort fee plus tax. The last night will be $90.00!!
We stayed at Tropical Palms four years in a row between March 2002 throught to March 2006. The reason? because we thought it was a nice park for the money they charged. We paid $39.00 per night which we found resonable for what they offered. Nice park, great location etc.
Not anymore, we were there to visit some friends who were a little less than happy campers. The renovations to the pool bathrooms were deplorable, the pool had standing room only, and the ambiance didn't improve with all those cottages there either. More people but not more amenities. The only improvement I saw was that there was now music around the pool and the snack bar was open longer. The price should be reduced at this place not increased 2.25 times the original price.
We paid just a little bit more than that to stay at Fort Wilderness and there is no way that these campgrounds are in the same league. I would have liked to have camped in the same campground with my brother but there's no way I'll pay that kind of money to stay at TP. It's back to Wilderness for me.

Yup, we too stayed there for 4 or 5 years running but noticed the deplorable maintenance in Jan and Mar 07 and the huge price increases for 2008. Plus they now want the total camping fee paid at the time of reservation. So stayed down the road at the KOA in Jan and Mar 08 and will be doing the same thing in 2009.

It has been almost a year since I have been there. We use to go about 4 times a year, since it is only about 150 miles from here. Last time I called, the price was around $60, including taxes. I called in the summer, when I know from past visits the place is less then a third full. I told them their prices were way out of line, especially for the summer, when the place could use more business.
They called me about a week later saying they had a deal for loyal customers. I think it was stay 3 nights only pay for 2. It had nothing to do with my previous call, they were calling past customers and trying to drum up some business. I already had booked some where else.

Call and ask about their promotions. We stayed there a year ago, for a week, and in the past two months they have called me 3-4 times, offering all types of promotions to return.
We have found Fort Wilderness to be Cheaper than the Super Sites at Tropical Palms with the Florida resident rate also.
We also started staying at the Kissimmee KOA if not at Ft Wilderness. Tropical Palms is nice but has "worn" a bit since Encore bought them and although the staff is still nice they do not treat you as well as before as they act like they are doing a job they do not necessarily enjoy. This is after over 20 years of camping at Tropical Palms.

Guess they're feeling the pinch if they have to resort to this to drum up business. The Kissimmee KOA staff told us that they're hearing a lot of complaints about what has happened at Tropical Palms.
WOW !!!
We camped there a few times a few years ago and the grassy spots in the rear were $24 a night. Oh well I only use the thousand trails when in orlando now.

I hear how much it went down when it was bought by Encore, but I still didn't find it as bad as when Encore was bought by Equity Lifestyles. Isn't it Equity Lifestyles who owns it now? I think so.
