I for 1 do not believe this too will pass, look at the past history of fuel pricing and is it cheaper today?I am doing a review of Park prices for next winter and have found that most are raising the prices, the underlying theory is that people will come no matter what the prices are.I can't believe it but one park was adamant that they will see more traffic of bigger rigs next year-why I don't know.We have sold our diesel truck and large 5 th. wheel, bought a small ultralite for local summer camping and a more economical daily driver and tow vehicle. We will still go south and rent in parks. We can travel cheaper when south, and the cost of depreciation of the large units, savings in fuel, etc.is almost the same for 2 months away.Less hassle traveling to and from also.We have a home booked for next year at the Park we want to stay, may not work out but we think it will.

I watch this thread daily. Unfortunately we are not in the position to snowbird yet, but we fully intend to live this lifestyle. We're keeping a close watch on what the economy does to the future so we can plan for our destiny. We've dreamed to long to allow our dreams to be wiped out. "We will survive"

We bought and placed a Park Model just before we left AZ and sold the MH as soon as we got home. Our Honda Civic gets 36 MPUSG.

We will also be going back to Yuma next year. We will just have to be a bit more conservative. By the way, it is SNOWING here. Supposed to get 3 to 5 inches today. There is NO WAY that we won't go south next winter. See ya in Yuma.

I live in NC and usually go to north Florida, its only 550 miles one way.
It cost me $150 last year to go south and I guess about $170 to get back to NC.
We dont get that much snow here but it does get cold.
My cutting back will be my summer trip out west. We like to go west about 5000 miles round trip each year. We didnt go last year 07 and I am thinking about not going again this year 08 and that hurts. The west trip will cost us about $2500 in fuel and camping fees.
We will do like we did last summer and just make some local trips to the Blue Ridge Parkway, Virginia and Tenn and do 2 weeks at a time. 200 mile round trips that last 2 weeks at a time.
The good thing about traveling in a motorhome or other RV is, it dont cost you anything when you are sitting still in one place. Camping is cheap, the fuel is the killer.
I am like some of the other posters here, I am concerned about the high price of fuel. I am also worried about what effect the fuel prices will have on our enconomy which will have an effect on my nest egg income.

I want to add this:
It would be interesting to see what is happening at the RV dealerships?
I would love to monitor their sales charts nationwide each month and compare them to past sales.

Quick math, 3000 mile round trip (for me) to RGV (I get appox. 8 mpg) last year at appox. $3/gal we spent appox. $1125 on fuel. This year at let's say $4.50/gal works out to appox. $1688. That's an increase of $564. I think with very little effort I can save $564 this summer....sooooo, I'll see you all in RGV by Jan 09.
