We are just heading home from this winters trip. We want to be out of the cold next winter and up to the last few weeks we were planning to head back out to the SW. The price of diesel is going up every day and we still have a 1,000 miles to get home. I find my self filling up at about 1/2 tank just to safe money of what it might cost down the road.
We're going to wait and see what happen with inflation early next winter. At this point we're just not sure.

Makes you wonder where this fuel increase is ever going to stop. Diesel fuel went up 25 cents here just this morning to $4.80. Makes us wonder if $6 diesel isn't in the near future.

The only problem with that is you lose the use of the motorhome Spring, Summer & Fall.
Yes and this is such a great state to camp in during the summer, I would hate to lose that--assuming we ever have a summer this year--so far, it has been just like Arizona last winter--cold, windy, and wet!

Where were you last winter? We had great weather in Yuma, only one day in Jan did it rain, about 1/2". Loved it!
Since we don't own a house anymore, went through three of them, now fulltimers, but not on the road ALL the time. Who can afford that anymore. Spend the Summer in the Midwest at a pretty much free to us site. (see our blog) We traveled to the great northwest and then down the OR coast and through CA (HW395) and on to AZ (Quartzsite for the winter) Not going to do a trip like that anytime soon. So glad we did that last fall when the price of fuel was lower.
Now thinking of upgrading to a new 5er. Should be good deals and if we have to spend more time in it, it ought to be nice. So for us the bottom line is if we have to make a bee line between our summer and winter spots we might as well have an upgraded, as in new, as we will spend more time in it, and less time pulling (as in touring) down the road. Another reason for looking at a new unit is it is so much cheaper to live in an RV than a sticks and bricks home. Now is not the time to be buying a house. Sure it takes getting used to living in under 400 Sq. feet of space. But having to be stuck in one spot in a house?!? Snow?!? Summer Heat?!? We get to move with the seasons. No property taxes, house insurance, water , ELECTRIC bills, etc. Priceless...

Not far from you--Parker! I understand Yuma was nice but we found Parker from mid-December to mid-January to be as I described it--cold, wet, and windy. Maybe that was due to the Colorado River? Moved to Tucson for a week--the same. Up to Coolidge for three weeks--a bit warmer but still never the weather we expected.
Spent a week at Lake Pleasant--coats were needed.
Finally the last week we were in Arizona--last week in Feb. we had a great days at Buckskin State Park.
With the prices of fuel, I'm thinking I need to take up my old winter favorites--hunting and skiing and just stay around here all year.
It is a little hard to beat Idaho in the summer and fall--especially in my neighborhood--Eastern Idaho.

Chuckster11,
Yes it was nice, also, when we were there the veggies were beginning to be harvested. We would go out into the fields, which they said we could do, (the foreman of the operation) and get the Cauliflower and broccoli that was left along with lettuce. The celery, one worker gave me six bunches, oh, that fresh stuff is good. The oranges and lemons peaked around Jan 15, delicious, along with the dates.
I hope to go back this Winter, I will if gas is in the area of $4.00 a gal, if not, guess I will have to find a place in Florida, but it is so expensive down there. By going there, my gas for the trip would be cut in half. This is one time I am glad I don't have a diesel pusher!
I've been doing a lot of thinking on this subject lately, as I watch fuel spiraling up out of control. I do have my motor home up for sale but with little hope of selling it! When studing the reasons for the high price of crude oil, the outlook is grim! Remember that it is traded in US dollars & as the dollar goes down in value the price of crude HAS TO GO UP!
So as long as gas stays somewhere around the $4.00 a gallon range, I will head out for the winter making this my last!
I wish someone would tell me their theory on making money by going south for the winter?
