Just going to bite the bullet again and do it! The kids don't need the money so we may as well enjoy it so long as our health id good.

We have a large TT that we're considering doing this with. The only problem is then we have to stay in motels each way, and I HATE motels. If we do that we're thinking of buying a small, used Class C just for coming and going down south, short trips in the Spring, Summer and Fall, etc. But then we need a toad too, and then we'll be right back in the same situation. And then we have to hire someone to tow the TT out of storage and put it on our site, and on, and on......
I guess the answer is just to bite the bullet and make cuts in other areas to compensate.....and also hope "this too will pass". It did after the gas problems in the 70's, so maybe it will now too.

This is very much a personal decision. Some are having to start paying for their health insurance & other things, so this is very big decision! When I started this snowbird life 7 years ago I knew it would be an expense above & beyond my normal retirement. I knew a motorhome was a bad investment. My thoughts were to be broke in a nursing having done it, then to have money & wish I had! I never dreamed it would get this bad! We are being conditioned! the price of fuel keeps going up & down but never as low as it was!

Yep retired last year and planed a big trip this year... Now we have'ta slow that down and put some trips off.
If you understood why fuel is so high you'd know it ain't gonna pass anytime soon! I think we are seeing the NEW standard for fuel prices being set right now, You may see 3 bucks at the low but higher in the summer and 5 bucks before this year ends heck before august! American's life style is about to change ........ for a long time and nobody sees it coming! You Will

Sorry to hear about your disappointing first year as a snowbird. For heavens sake, don't give up this early. Give Florida a try, although it will be a little further distance for you.
As I said in my earlier post to this thread, it will probably cost another $100 to get to Florida this winter, but it's going to take a lot more money than that for me to spend another winter in Indiana, after 7 years of Florida sunshine. I would imagine a winter in Idaho is just as bad if not worse.

We will continue to go to Mesa, Arizona as long as health and money allow us to do so
I have been a hospice counselor for many years, and I too often hear patients and families talking about delaying what they love to do, and suddenly, they loose their health. This then causes huge regrets and sorrow. My dear father was a perfect example of "we will go next year". Next year never came.
Life is too precious and too short to not chase your dreams within reason. Live life today, because this is what we have.

You should be happy that you have the option to be a snowbird! Live life and enjoy. It could be worse. You could still be a workin stiff like me and not really even have the option to take off for the winter.
We sold our house last Thanksgiving and have been living in the MH since while now building another house and shop. Hopefully in 2 years after the capital gain period the house market will pick back up and we will sell, THEN have a chance to travel.
How do you think I feel thinking about what fuel prices might be then !!! You guys better enjoy it now.

We are keeping the MH but no longer wintering in it. It is reasonably fully depreciated and works great for summer camping and travel. We decided to buy a park model rather than a newer mh with slide outs and more room since the likely depreciation on a park model is by far less than the known depreciation on a mh. We expect our maximum depreciation exposure on the park model to be about equal to the depreciation suffered when driving a new rig off the lot. And that is only the first year.
Thus, we hope to have the best of both worlds. Summer camping and winter in AZ in an RV community that we enjoy.
