Last year we went to Gulf Shores, AL for the first time and really enjoyed the trip. However, we went in mid-August when it was extremely hot. The first day or so the water was wonderful, but after that the waves got a bit rough and suddenly there was a lot of seaweed, algae, or some other kind of green "gunk" in the water for the rest of our time there. We had a good time, but I expect there is probably a better time of year to visit there.

Those of you "in the know" about Gulf Shores, what time of year would you recommend visiting there? Is May a good time? What about early June?

Thanks -- Joyce

We go to Gulf Shores in June every year. We stay in a beach house at Fort Morgan. Nice time of year to go.

I agree that there is not a bad time to be at Gulf Shores or any of the beaches close by. My daughter got married on the beach on Oct 15th 2005 and I can tell you the weather and the water were fabulous!!! Temps were low upper 70's, water was almost perfectly flat and beautiful emeral green. After this we have made two trips to Topsail in October and they have been wonderful, especially since we have small kids. BUT I can tell you that the biting flies may or may not be present. But they can appear at anytime of the year so don't let that discourage from the Oct timeframe. We bumped the fall trip up a couple of weeks and will be going in mid Sept this year. Expecting great weather then too!

we go at least once a month in the summer. we only live about 2.5 hours away and we just head out on a fri when i get my weekends off each month. like stated above, anytime is a good time. we are going for a full week july 7th-13th. parents and sisters are ataying in a condo, but we are staying at the state park. cant beat $138 for a week, compared to $800 for the condo!!! we have also stayed at the Luxury RV Park and we will go back when we go on out next short trip. you can walk to all the lil shops in town and even to the beach.

Glad to hear good stuff about Gulf Shores. We're going in late July. We usually stay in Destin at Henderson Beach or Topsail, but both were full. I'm actually kinda glad, it's made us look for a different place this time. From what I've read about the state park, it sounds like a good place.

I took my neice and nephew to Gulf shores several years ago. It was early June and you could not eveen go in the Water without getting stung by Jelly Fish. That may have been a one time thing, but we were there 2-3 days and it was the same every day. It was their first trip to the "Ocean" and they were so disappointed. So was I.
