I went from a Tent to slide-in Camper to the Class-c. For us it was a good move as we pull a boat & Boondock on about 90% of our trips and needed something that could pull. The truck/camper was good but as the boys are growing we found we needed a little more room and 25' class-c does just that. Also with our 25', 4x4 we can go anywhere that the camper went, being only 2' longer.
We did it last year. Traded 31 foot tt with F250 power stroke for a 29 foot Four winds with 2 slides. There are some things you will have to compromise on such as storage space and weight capacity, but for us it was a good move. Much easier just to get in and go. Also seems like you are on vacation as soon as you leave the house instead of waiting till you get to the campground. The tt and tow vehicle got better gas mileage, but sure do enjoy the mh more. The tt combo was just too long for some of the places I wanted to camp so nice compromise.
We love our Class-C MH. One of the best pluses for me is pulling into a CG in incliment weather, park in site, turn off ignition and I am 2ft from my coach and a cold beer. No need to go outside, all self contained till the weather passes. Having an onboard genset is a plus too.

We had 2 different fivers, the last being a 32' Alpenlite with 2 slides. Traded the truck and fiver in on a super C last summer and love it. In the process of getting a Jeep Liberty set up as a toad. DW can drive it too where the truck and fiver was just too much for her to manage.
We just upgraded also. We wanted a bigger 5er, but then needed a bigger TV. Mileage would have about the same, while towing. Not much better when not. I like driving a smaller vehicle, and having the MH just when I need it. Don't miss trying to back a 30 ft TT either
