consider a Toyota Tundra to pull it. It's really a 3/4 ton truck anyway when you look at all the specs. Don't automatically assume you need a 3/4 ton or even a diesel. Look around.

Why would he want to drop 500 lbs in payload capacity by doing this.

You are at the top of your rating with the extra passengers. You will manage as your truck does have the required payload.
I am at 16000 lbs with my 6900 dry TT your truck will be 1000 lbs lighter than me, possibly putting you at 15000 lbs total combined. You will be wishing for more hill climbing power some times. Please post your Tow results after a trip to the Rockies. I would be interested as that if they were to put the new 6 speed in the 1/2 Vortec max package, that it would possibly be my next TV, with a slightly lighter TT.

The self weigh stations are all over on Alberta Highways stop in sometime and find out were you are at for weight.

Well, the TT tows fine, just went for our first trip, about 350km round trip over the MAy long weekend. No problem except for 60-70 km hour crosswinds which were hairy with the sway and all. Truck will pull the trailer fully loaded at about 2000 rpm doing 100 km/hr. It is working when it downshifts for hills or wind, but not bad at all really. good unit the Jayco and the Chevrolet VMax.

I looked up Toyota Tundra's payload. I come up with 1410 to 2060 lbs max equipped. Now if you take the DRY hitch weight of 1035 lbs the 31 BHS adds, add the 1000 pounds of camping stuff you accumulate over the years in the camper, throw in some gear in the bed of the truck, then add 5 people in the cab.

Wouldn't you be writing this same article about the Toyota?

Tows well except it got a little hairy with the sway and all. Yes I understand the wind can induce sway. But A 3/4 ton truck would not be as adversly effected by the wind. I tow a heavier trailer and do not have white knuckle or hairy experiences wind or no wind.

Well my trucks payload is 2010lbs so I cannot see any advantage to the Tundra. I might consider a Reese dual cam hitch or Hensley? Any thoughts? Thanks and happy rving!
