I need to dewinterize my PUP and need to figure out what to do with the RV antifreeze currently in the system. My pup is in my yard and I'm wondering if I could just purge it all there into the grass. It must not be too toxic if you can put it into potable water systems, so how bad could it be for grass? What about for any pets lurkin around? Thanks!

I am not sure if it hurts anything, but we did this today and made sure it went on our gravel drive way, some ran onto the grass, I guess we will find out later if it kills it.

Hi,

The anti-freeze probably has alcohol in it, and the grass probably will not like it much. I suggest collecting most of it and dumping it into a sink in the house - well if you have a septic system, then might as well dump it on the ground, because that is where it will end up anyhow.

Specific RV Antifreeze (the pink one) is listed in the Federal Registry as GRAS (Generally Rated as Safe) for consumption and non-toxic. While actually having a glass doesn't seem like a health-conscious idea to me...I think the grass would be okay. Should be okay for the pets, too - although I would probably make sure mine didn't drink any just for safety sake.

I open my low point drain and collect it back in the gallon jug it cam out of. I keep it around just in case, and then flush the rest down the sewer.

I know that it will kill clover and weeds, so I assume it'll kill grass. I dumped some on the gravel where I park a few years ago. The clover coming up thru the gravel turned a sickly shade of tannish-grey. I've seen pretty much the same color on stuff that was killed with Roundup.

This was WalMart's finest pink stuff, at close to 100% concentration. Dunno what effect dilution would have.

since you are talking about the pink stuff in your water system, yes go ahead and dump it on the grass, no big deal. presumably with a hot water bypass there will not be much of it anyway.
I think these people who think it will kill grass/etc. are thinking of car radiator anti freeze myself.
I mean you can drink the stuff with no problem, note I said "you" can drink it, not me.
