I guess it's the "circle of life" for camping! We just started camping maybe 6 years ago. Did the tent for a few years, bought an oversized old heavy hard to tow hard to set up pup (it was an `89 hard sided sunlighter with a 14 foot box) Did the pup for a year and then found a huge old Malibu Cobra 31 foot RV for $5,800 and did that for a few years. Now with the cost of gas and insurance have decided to get rid of the RV and just get back into tenting. Found a wenzel Titan tent for $134 and a portable refrigerator, the wife is insisting on a little porta poti though, she doesn't want to have to hike to the bathroom at 2am and my sugestion of her using a coffeee can didn't go over well.
I can't wait to get out in the tent and here the crickets and other outdoorsy beasts,,,,,, for me camping got less and less fun with each upgrade with the RV being more like staying at a hotel thatn camping.
Anybody else ever make this "circle" or am I just a goof?

I think it all depends on what you are expecting to get out of it. Many on this forum are not in it for the "roughing it/back to nature" feeling. My family likes to get away from home and visit other places. While we are doing that we like to enjoy the comforts of home without having to stay in a hotel. When it comes down to it Rving is a very expensive HOBBY that you have to be committed to in order to enjoy it.

Depends.
When I camp with my husband, we use the trailer. He's done sleeping on the ground (cots?).
When I camp with my girlfriends, we us the tent. Okay, we have nice army cots, pads on top of them, so we don't sleep on the ground.

I've made a similar sort of progression in a way. We still have our travel trailer, and a load of tent equipment and we basically take what we need for each place dependent upon how far away it is and what we are taking. With gas being as expensive as it is right now, we basically use our travel trailer as a second home during the summer at a local campground where we have a membership and stay for 30 days a year.(silentvalleyclub.com)
If we are traveling hundreds of miles, like we did last summer to Yellowstone, or last spring to San Felipe, we take the tent and assorted gear.
I personally am very fond of our tent. It is a huge Coleman 17x12 and has been very good to us. Our friends were going to borrow it and my wife was worried about damage. I reminded her we had already put 30 days on it last year alone.
Depending upon the time of year and location, you might add a Mr. Buddy to the mix to insure the wife doesn't complain to loudly about the cold.

We fulltime in a 5th wheel, but we had always missed camping (fulltiming & camping are NOT the same). So last year we bought a tent, and now when the mood strikes, we can go camping. We work in Yellowstone during the summers and have thoroughly enjoyed our tent!

Just as long as you stick with camping and happy...then whatever choice your will make is the best.
However, just a word to support the DW...at least if she is 'willing' to go back to tent camping...get her one of these:
Link
These 'small' things make camping so much more pleasant...not only for her...but for you too. You won't have to hear her COMPLAINTS in the middle of the night.
HAPPY CAMPING!!
