We are "discussing" ditching the PUP and going back to tenting for a while for money reasons. Price of gas is one reason, but kid in college and termite damage to the stick and brick house is another. We need the capital tied up in the camper. I asked DH for a last trip in the PUP for mother's day, and we'll make up our minds. I really don't know how I feel about it.
In the long run, though, we are sure, when money allows, that we'd like a hybrid TT. It has all those sleeping outside type benefits, plus it's decent work wise.
Good luck and let us know how it goes readjusting to tent living. We are very curious for obvious reasons!
Rain is the part that worries me most.

We started off with a tent 20 years ago, went to an old tent trailer, to an older Class C Mini Winnie, to a nice used pop-up, to the nicest new pop-up, to a small travel trailer, to a fifth-wheel and back to a tent now. We considered getting or building a small trailer but with the tags, insurance and the lack of fresh air (we liked the tent campers but with the cost of gasoline and everything else...) and the general hassle of maintenance it looks like we are going to stay with the nearly new LLBean super big tent. We have lots of goodies to go with it. We didn't like the totally enclosed RVs as they seemed like little mobile homes and we enjoy the sounds of quiet mixed with critter calls - it was awesome in the desert. Now, if at mid-50's I wonder if we shouldn't invest in some nice cots though because the air mattresses leave something to be desired. Cathy

Oh my, YES! Get the cots. I bought a couple of standard cots for the girls and a Cabelas XL Cot & Pad for me. It really has transformed tent camping for us. Plus, my DW likes to lay out on one to catch some sun.

I have been and still am in the same predicament. My circle has more to do with the fact that we like to fish and bring my boat along on our camping trips. I have had tent, upgraded to a pop up, got rid of that went back to the tent cuz we couldn't pull the boat. Went to an old motor home, decided to upgrade to a nice almost new travel trailer, decided again that we like to pull the boat, went back to tent, old motor home that we used to have became available again so we bought it back.
Now we do both, tent sometimes and use the old motorhome when we are going somewhere close-by with friends. Works for us at this time, we are only in our upper 30's but maybe as we get older we may think about a travel trailer on a seasonal site or if I win the lottery I will get a diesel truck and pull a 5th wheel with the boat behind.
