I'd like to be able to keep the AC/DC TV/DVD combo we have in the Roadtrek, but realize that we won't be able to receive any US OTA TV with it after Feb/09.

Since we dry camp/boondock sometimes, could anyone with a converter box tell me what the output voltage from the AC adaptor is? Ideally, it'd be great if it was 12 VDC so I could power the box from the 12 V house battery. I'm not sure that the box would function well with our cheap modified-sine-wave inverter. I can't seem to get this info anywhere on the internet, and the boxes aren't sold yet in Canada. (Our switchover to digital only is 2011, I believe.)

Thanks in advance for any info.

The one I have (Insignia) doesn't have an adapter, it is 120V input. I don't know if there is an internal transformer or not.

The converter will quite likely do fine with a cheap MSW inverter. My LCD TV and my Direct TV receiver do fine on MSW.

I have an Insignia converter box from Best Buy. Haven't permanently installed yet but, in testing for a few hours, the box worked fine using the cheap 75 watt cigarette lighter inverter I got last year to run my weather alert radio when we don't have an electric hook-up.

Magnavox power use 8 watts. Insignia power use 7 watts. Both have 120 v power cords.

Thanks everyone for your replies. Looks like I'll get a cigarette lighter inverter to power the d-a converter box when we're off shore power.

Yes I agree. I have one that does over 200w that we use to keep the cell phones and camera batteries going and the computer while on the road. It has a cooling fan and a switch on it too.
I think we paid like $25 for it at Wal Mart.
